I had a sxs ml 12 that I shot small game with.
It burned in a house fire.
There is a navy arms 12 ga sxs for sale loaclely not a bad price.
There a wma that primitive weapons are all that’s allowed.

I don’t like buckshot.
So does anyone have a suggestion/ tips for round balls?

The guy told me the gun rated for up to 120g is ff

This would seem an large size to hunt small game. I have a sxs perdersoli in .72 caliber, which is comparable to a 12 gauge in diameter. Track of the Wolf has 550 grain round balls (.715 diameter) that fit snuggly with a patch. Although The max load is 120 gr of FF, I found it was most accurate with 90 gr. It’s always good to find a reason to buy a gun. There are smaller muzzle loading sxs which might be better for small game. Good luck with your decision.

I used my old one I lost only on small game.
The wma wildlife management area has hogs.
In fl they list hogs as small game to give you more time to hunt them.
It’s the hogs I want to use the round balls on.
Sorry for any confusion.
Thanks I will check them out

I have a 10 ga, SxS, Pedersoli. It's rated for 109 grain max charge. I use ~75 grains volume of fff. It is accurate out to 50 yards.

My experience is not to good for max charge in a double shotgun using round ball, mini or maxi ball (conical slugs/bullets) as the pressure may cause the barrel weld to seperate and/or "warp" deregulating the barrels.

Double rifle barrels as in the, IIRC, Pedersoli Kodiak model, are made to handle heavier charges; sending round ball and conica bullets on to 100 - 100+ yards without any problem.

The shotgun is fine for small game such as rabbit and squirrel but if you are seriously considering taking hogs you would be MUCH better served with a muzzleloading rifle. I would have to check the latest regulations but FL is fairly liberal as far as action or ignition type as well as optics.

These are near impossible to find new and almost as difficult in any used condition. It’s the only muzzleloader I wish was in more abundance.

I would say that if you can pick up any SXS muzzleloading shotgun in good condition for $300 you should.
I really enjoyed using my Navy Arms on grouse when I got the chance.

Found out the other guy came through

Thanks for the help anyway

Have you tried Muzzle Loadinding Rifle Association, then check out various gunmakers and Muzzle Loading shops. There are usually several shops with muzzleloading shotguns for sale both new and used.

You can also check out the State and Local Club shoots section for events near you.

You can also Google search Reenactment Foundation, Rendezvous, Longhunter, these are related organizations to the NMLRA. Members are dedicated to early American living, crafts, and much more.

Saw a good looking knife you posted a pic of with the watermelon. Can I ask the make? Looks like you hunted with Guav Johnson? We overlapped in the Save once. Would like to hunt with him one day..
