Glad you're getting the much needed rain!

Hope you get a lot more.

At least you have a decent start.

Well it's that time of the year again when give the staff some meat ,as it's coming up to Christmas and I head back to lusaka around 16th or so....had a think and it was let's go with the.... in americanese the thutty thutty I believe... :A Thumbs Up: ...my little 1894 16 inch carbine . Now as have only bout 30 rounds for it as appears non in zambia I have been keeping it on the back burner so to speak...but thought way it handles be good for warthogs on the run, as 97% of time here they gap it even when you 2 to 300 yards away....so off we went ...tap on roof and Ernest said pig up front...I couldn't see as grass is growing a bit and leaves out on bushes etc....so took it out of the gun bag and off we went....luckily the wind was good and with a nice big termite mound we closed up...but when got around it nothing...then in front a distance away in the trees and bushes Ernest pointed....I could see it but was partially covered by smalk tree trunks and bushes...moved one way as it was looking...then back as it moved slightly..then it started to run so it was now or never....managed to get the sights on it for a second and fired....was about 60 to 70 yards and it was on the move....straight down...as we walked up stopped kicking a minute or so after....was impressed with the little rifle....

The 'ol 94 got it done, well done Mike.

@spike.t as a matter of fact, I too was out shooting my 30-30 today. Just off hand shooting 20-50 yards. Getting ready for mountain lion in about a month. I have a few boxes of once fired brass that I need to reload some day.

Had some heavy rain in last month.....other day equalled the total for last year...which isn't saying much in reality, as last year was crap....dam has a bit in now so better than the last photos of it bone dry....river on other side of dam wall has reached to centre of wall at bottom....probably touching for 40 feet....needs to come up another 8 feet min to come in spillways though....only way it fills properly....

That's a lot of water in your pond.

Better than it was when dry....but not really that much....this is march 2021...in distance it curves around up the dambo and another hundred metres of water....

This is other side of dam wall in Mar 21..kafue river side....at moment river is just reaching centre of dam wall ....touching for 30 feet or so at base....

This is showing river on left with dam on right....march 2021 was last time this happened, and last time river was high enough to flow in through spillways to fill the dam properly....rain water alone doesn't put enough in by itself....why the dam dried up end of last year...as only rain topped it up for last 3 years ...

Would it be worth it (or even legal) to invest in a diesel powered high volume water pump to move river water into your dam?

Just be too expensive....and we got 16kms of river front so for us we in a better position than a lot of places...got a couple of small pumps use for fulling water tanks for tents house....and last year filled up couple of the small seasonal water holes ...but in the sun they are only good for 3 weeks or so....

We call those rings around the sun or moon moon dogs and sun dogs, more often than not it means rain in the near future. Cross your fingers.
Cheers, David

What a great way to kick off our 2025 hunting season in South Africa.

This beautiful Impala ram was taken at just over 300 yards, took a few steps and toppled over.

We are looking forward to the next week and a half of hunting with our first client of the year.

Do you have any more copies of African Dangerous Game Cartridges, Author: Pierre van der Walt ? I'm looking for one. Thanks for any information, John [redacted]
