Talk me into Blaser R8

Thank you for the videos guys!

I was trying to be gentle with the plastic (?) magazine and insert the rounds initially from the front of the magazine and slide them back instead of snapping them over the magazine lips.

Tried several last night (375) and it worked great.

Thanks again!

The only problem with R8’s is that you keep buying more…getting ready for Namibia.

Much respect to the 35 Whelen but not an Elephant caliber…

True, but elephant didn't know that in days of your when the were hunted with a 350 Rigby magnum or a 7x57 or 6.5x54.
They still fell down dead when shot properly.

Welcome back to the current day @Bob Nelson 35Whelen, where there are minimum calibers and energy levels.

I get it...I wish we could go back too.

Recently sold a Blaser R93 Pro and three barrels and some other rifles, deciding on a timber stocked R8 Success for most hunting. Super portable, shoots well and handles great, however I was kind of blah on the stock shape as I generally like a more tradition stock. Surprised at just how good the Success stock is though. I went with 30-06, 6.5x55 and 22-250 barrels with seperate Zeiss Victory HT optics per barrel in 2.5-10x50 or 3-12x56 and a H2 Aimpoint.
I think I will add a 9.3x62 and 22RF barrels to round my uses out.
Kept my R93 Makura Ulrich Takedown and Mauser M12 Expert both chambered for in 30-06, a CZ557 full stock in 6.5x55 and a Carl Gustaf 1900 Gr2 in 308w.
Must admit the cabinets sure do look empty but that R8 is a worthy replacement.

9.3x62 barrel added, time to stop collecting barrels (22-250, 6.5x55, 30-06 & 9.3x62) that ought to do it, better get back to paying the mortgage (and hunting). Damned Blaser are just so versatile.

LOL. It seems to be a bit of a disease. I watch BB, Guns Int daily for r8's or barrels that are unloved :)

Booked with Harold Grinde - Gana River - they sure kill some good ones - who'd you get set up with?

HI all, here is a Short update on our America trip, I currently in Houston and have 2 more meetings here before movings North toward Oklahoma, Missouri and Iowa, and from there I will head to Colorado and Idaho,I have been met with great hospitality and friendship, and have met several new and old clients and we are going to book the rest of 2025 season quick and have several dates booked for 2026!
That's a wrap, on our first hunt of this years season.

Hunting conditions are a bit tougher in South Africa during the month of February, but can be just as rewarding if done right.
