Tanzania Plains Game -- Gazelle??

Gents, thank you all for the information so far. I reached out to Spear and will to the others mentioned.
Someone asked budget, I have not set one, other than I know I am not looking to do the full bag with cats, elephant, etc. I had planned to take a stone sheep hunt by last year, but after the prices have continued to rise and quality/number drop, I cannot see me booking a $100k+ for a stone sheep when I get to hunt dall sheep so reasonably. Sooner or later I will want a slam I am sure, but will worry about that after I tag a rocky bighorn.

Honestly not really interested in most of the other plains game outside the gazelles, but will say I had not considered the gerenuk, but after seeing the reference and looking, it is pretty interesting animal. I have limited trophy space these days after downsizing homes and until new shop/gunroom is built next year. I hope to fill a couple walls with sheep still before I leave this planet. As it is, I have several dall, desert bighorn, some large bear rugs and a bunch of big moose laying around wanting wall space...so I simply am not looking necessarily for one of everything, everywhere I go. Just the ones that really pique my interest.

I'd likely go just for a grants gazelle, but can see wanting to take the others if the chances arose. And for some reason as I am starting to look at seeing/hunting other countries, got this weird interest suddenly to maybe take a buffalo from each country where they are available. Currently trying to do the same with dall sheep, hoping to take one from each of our mountain ranges.

Scott - you just listed my ideal Tanzanian safari. Agree with you on Buffalo as well. All great information, except, now I want to go to Tanzania!
Me too! Been on my bucket list for about 5 years now.... except I'd add a week doing the tourist thing to see a bit of the Great Migration, and few days back on Zanzibar with @Just Gina to relive our Honeymoon :)

Gerenuk are a really cool animal. Most people have no clue what they are.

Lessor kudu are beautiful in their own right. Hunt those that intrigue you. Good luck!

IMHO, Robert’s gazelle is the hardest animal to line up. I have yet to see one despite hunting in an area where they were on quota. Grant’s gazelle, Thomson’s gazelle, gerenuk, lesser kudu, fringe-eared oryx, Coke’s hartebeest and white-bearded wildebeest are easier. In addition, there are areas with very good buffalo in Massailand. I could have taken buffalo but it wasn’t my focus. IMHO, you can hunt buffalo all over Africa so it should be secondary to the endemic plains game only found in Massailand. It is challenging to find everything on one trip, especially Robert’s.
Great advice from someone who’s been there and done that

Yeah we also went to the Ngorogoro Crater and Serengeti NP. Definitely worth the time. Very dusty roads between the Crater and Serengeti so make sure your tour company has Cruisers with A/C and closed cabs or you will get coated with dust. I’m not much for beaches so didn’t make it to Zanzibar. Kilimanjaro more my jam. :E Big Grin: :A Camping:

My trip coming up is a vacation first. Zanzibar - Beach, snorkeling/diving; Rwanda - Mountain Gorillas; Kenya - Amboseli (to see the super tuskers), Nairobi; and, mainland Tanzania - Ngorogoro and Serengeti and Hunting after the vacation.

My wish list: Lessor, Gerenuk, Thomson, Grants, Zebra (no Shadow), Buffalo in that order and the Buffalo would have to be over 42". Top priority is the Lessor and Gerenuk was they are on the premium license and I doubt that I would ever pay that again. If I had to go back, the Thomson, Grants and Buffalo are on the cheap license.

trperk1, I bought the Kimber Caprivi 375 back in an earlier post. You attached a target with an impressive three rounds touching 100 yards. I took the 2x10 VX5 off and put a VX6 HD Gen 2 1x6x24 Duplex Firedot on the rifle. It's definitely a shooter curious what loads you used for the group. Loving this rifle so fun to shoot. Africa 2026 Mozambique. Buff and PG. Any info appreciated.
Ready for the hunt with HTK Safaris
