Plans were made with another forum member to hunt with @gizmo on his
Rocking G Ranch outside Turkey, Texas but unfortunately the other AH member had to reschedule. My wife and I needed a break from the moving procrss so we decided to keep our dates and sure glad we did as it was a wonderful time and the relaxation was most welcomed.

We flew into Amarillo direct from Nashville and rented a vehicle for the drive down to the ranch. The terrain around Amarillo is pretty flat but once your outside of the city a bit the terrain turns into ravines and canyons, perfect muledeer habitat.

Arriving at the ranch we were welcomed by Kelly which was to be our cook for the next three days and Billy who would be my guide for the upland bird hunt we had planned.
I will say now that Kelly is one hell of a cook. Each and every meal she prepared was fabulous. I'm not a food snob but if I was, I would have had a hard time trying to find fault with what she produced out of the kitchen.
Billy is an energetic guide that loves his hunting dogs (more on the dogs later) as much as he loves to hunt.
The lodge is setup with private bedrooms with connected bathrooms/showers. Very nice, comfortable and clean. Perfect combination to kick back, hunt and relax.
After dinner and enjoying the sunset it was time to call it good night and get prepared for the morning hunt.

Up early and ready to chase some birds with @gizmo and Billy's dogs. @gizmo arrived to the ranch later the night prior and would be joining me for the duration of the hunt.
I have hunted over dogs a dozen or so times and can say these dogs were the best I have hunted over.
Their breed is German Drahthaar and we had 5 on hand for our hunting needs. Watching them work was a real joy.
Knowing we would be hunting over dogs I chose to take my Winchester Model 23 sxs.
We did well one the first day and seen several coveys of native quail.

Second day the weather was beautiful and we took a drive around the property. Billy has a herd of mini herefords that my wife had to stop and see.
Throughout the trip we spotted numerous mulies on the ranch. As well as various game species within their fenced hunting area.
As always the dogs and Billy did great and we came away with a good group of birds for the day.

The evening prior to us leaving Kelly made a pot pie with some of our birds and it was delicious.
I would like to thank @gizmo for a great time and we both enjoyed our time at the ranch with everyone. Not coming across any of those snakes you got down there was an added bonus.

We hope to return in the very near future!
