The Return to ....

Thanks guys for the wishes.

It will get longer as I go Bluey, so be prepared.
I hope it gets a lot more entertaining after all the flying when the stalking, spotting and shooting starts.

The goal is to chronicle of the entire process to let rookies know what might be involved from stem to stern and have them relax and be able to take the leap to go and hunt Africa.

Cliffy I can take the teasing. I'll take it as I dish it out. :)
I wish it were easier to, but paranoia prevails.

I expect paperwork and have been used to it for years. It's the silliness that comes in with obstructionist, reactive bureaucratic thinking that gets my blood up. I try to take it with a grain of salt but some days the frustration shows...

I think the trans border paperwork is all in place now. At least forms are filled out and ready to be signed upon arrival.

As everyone does.. I am doing the count down. Just to make sure I do not forget I put an app on the Phone: "Days Until"

https://itunes.apple.com/ca/app/days-until/id297804039?mt=8

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.leihwelt.android.daysleft&hl=en

109 DAYS to go!

June 19....Tick.. Tick.. Tick...

Good Luck on your hunt Wayne know you'll have a great time hell after all that paperwork you've earned it.

When someone says: "We have quota!"

it will make a great mount brick (mind you this is the only place ive a hyena mount)
and another skull to the collection

If I am lucky enough it will be a great trophy.

The scary part is that I have not even headed out yet and I am adding to the list.

Never mind walking around and seeing a trophy you just answer and email and POW!

Thanks Bluey yo had me worried I thought my computer was doing goofy crap again.

Hope you can see them now Bob.

I got a text/SMS today asking about coming by the house tonight for some animal identification practice from the youngest hunter coming on the trip.
A thirteen year old girl wants to study African game and non game animals before going hunting.
I gladly provided the affirmative to the request.
We'll work her up to Trophy estimating before we go.

I hope you bring home some neat stories on your spotted hyena hunt.
I would like to goto northern Namibia and give it a whirl!

I am going to start the technology review to determine which cameras (still and video) are coming along. I hope to record some of the details to share.

Woke up this morning, turned on the news and learned how my trip might be effected.

Labour strife. Lufthansa staff are on "warning strike" today. All kinds of flight cancellations in Germany today.
Apparently they are not happy with wage freeze proposals and want a 5.2% increase.

This action, that has cancelled 40% of the companies flights.

In my opinion they have less than ninety days to get this settled! Here's hoping.

They have less than that I leave in 46days!

I wish you two all the best... last year the luggage and airfield staff at Frankfurt were on strike for weeks and weeks on end... everybody was fed up with them in the end.
And the Lufthansa employees had to suffer a lot of cuts in the recent times, so they might have some anger growing inside...

But I think they make their point right now, shortly before the Easter holidays, and after that the management will be more willing to agree to a compromise.

Thanks Zabi. I am hopeful.
Doing this now is much better than the high season.

Vernal Equinox has been and gone. Yeah, March 20.

Real Spring is coming in the north, just like fall in RSA.

The bow got some fresh air today. Finally.
It had to after being cooped up at inside archery lanes for months.

A little chilly today,-1C, with Spike's windchill of -6C, but we all got some practice in compensating for wind and slopes. Perfect early morning conditioning for a Southern African winter.

Success, with good groups out to forty yards.

Reviewing CITES regulations and other legislation. I found a great resource to help the newbies with animal ID. It is meant to teach Customs and Border Folks what to look for. It is meant to teach someone with NO experience:
Environment Canada - Publications - CITES Identification Guide - Hunting Trophies CITES-12

Found a book on tracking that should provide some new insight.
The-Art-of-Tracking-The-Origin-of-Science-Louis-Liebenberg

I also have some new books on the way from Rowland Ward and Safari Press. Study Study Study.

87 days and counting.

2,822fps, ES 8.2
This compares favorably to 7 Rem Mag. with less powder & recoil.

*PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS IS FOR MY RIFLE, ALWAYS APPROACH A NEW LOAD CAUTIOUSLY!!*
Rifle is a Pierce long action, 32" 1:8.5 twist Swan{Au} barrel
{You will want a 1:8.5 to run the heavies but can get away with a 1:9}
Peterson .280AI brass, CCI 200 primers, 56.5gr of 4831SC, 184gr Berger Hybrid.

I know that this thread is more than a year old but as a new member I thought I would pass along my .280AI loading.
I am shooting F Open long range rather than hunting but here is what is working for me and I have managed a 198.14 at 800 meters.
That is for 20 shots. The 14 are X's which is a 5" circle.
