Third time a charm?

I also take a digital camera just like @Mort Hill stated, and I always carry that camera on my backpack for those special moments.

I forgot to mention that I took a Go-Pro with me on my 2022 safari. One of the trackers recorded my cow Buffalo hunt, and he did an amazing job following us with the camera. On my Lioness hunt, the second PH (Frikkie) recorded my Lioness hunt, and he also did an excellent job.

On the Eastern Cape hunt, my PH Wik from Game-4-Africa recorded my Nyala hunt with his phone, and the quality of his video is amazing.

I'll swim against the current. Take the 30-06 and leave the 375 home. 30-06 with 165 gr Partitions will take any plains game. Your 30-06 should be a lighter gun to carry. If you plan to hunt kudu, you will likely be doing some walking, possibly in rough country. A lighter gun would be more convenient. Perhaps bring along a few 200 gr loads if you think eland or roan might be on the menu. In the old days Hornady made 190 gr cup and core bullets that worked great on moose. Not sure if those are available now. In store this morning I saw for the first time Speer "Hot Core Fusion" 170 gr bullets. Those have certainly peaked my curiosity. Presumably a bonded bullet. Seems like a nice compromise weight for 30-06.

Unless the OP has unlimited resources, I seriously doubt Cape buffalo will be an animal of opportunity unless possibly culling a cow. Trophy fee for bulls range ~$10K. Most of us have to plan ahead for that kind of expenditure. Even culling a cow can run $2K-$3K. I do not believe anyone at the lodge would think any less of the OP if he showed up to hunt plains game with his 30-06 rather than a "classic African" 375. Well, no one worth a crap anyway.

Just my 2 cents.

If you normally don't wear shorts, then don't bother taking them.

If you prefer low, below the ankle hiking/hunting shoes then you might want to wear gaiters for the nuisance jumping cactus in the area. On the other hand if you are wearing above the ankle boots/hiking shoes gaiters aren't needed.

For shirts: long sleeve t-shirts, long sleeve shirts, and/or maybe 1 or 2 short sleeve shirts for hunting and traveling. The weather can be a bit contrary 70°F hi and mid 60°F lo on arrival plus a day or two after then drop into the 50°F hi and upper 20's/mid 30's°F overnight/early morning lows before warming up to the mid 70°F again.
With long sleeves- sleeves up as the weather warms, sleeves down as the weather cools, and long sleeve t-shirt can be added for extra warmth and removed as the day warms.

As for taken or not taking your DSLR. I recommend taking it. Just for the better HD quality of DSLR over the phone cameras on distance photo and video opportunities. My DSLR stayed with the truck while hunting then both the DSLR and phone camera were used for the photo op after a successful hunt and the DSLR was used for photos and videos of scenery and other animals in the area, the skinners at work, to capture sights and sounds.

My missed opportunities was not using the DSLR while visiting a particular concession loaded with a lot of different wildlife on our way to the hunting area for blue wildebeest and again on a different concession with large herds of impala and springbok running and jumping while going after blesbok.

As for whether to take your 30-06 and/or 375H&H. You didn’t list the plains game you plan on hunting other than to say eland may be on the list. So either or taking both will be a good choice. As far as any extra hassle in taking 2 rifles, the only hassle is lugging 2 firearms around and not using the one. But it is nice to have a back up rifle that one is familiar with and can shoot accurately. With these 2 calibers you don't have to worry about not having the right caliber in hand, unless there is DG in the area.

Happy Hunting.

Good Morning x84958
I have read your post about Jamy Traut and your hunt in Caprivi. I am planning such a hunt for 2026, Oct with Jamy.
Just a question , because I will combine Caprivi and Panorama for PG, is the daily rate the same the week long, I mean the one for Caprivi or when in Panorama it will be a PG rate ?
thank you and congrats for your story.
Best regards
Philippe from France
