Those with high value firearms, do you bring them to Africa to hunt with?

I hunt with several bespoke rifles--built by myself, lol! Would like to say I would hunt with a $200k firearm since I've hunted with everything I've ever owned...but would question whether I would spend that much in the first place. I think I'd have to be mighty rich, otherwise would spend that on a hunt with a more utilitarian piece.

Even if I owned a $300K, Holland & Holland, I would hunt with it.

This ^ I have a 2014 bottle of 20yr Pappy Van Winkle I bought for $140, it’s now worth $6500 or more! Same goes with many other well bought items including firearms…
A friend always says “they will never be more available or less expensive then they are now!”. Basically saying if you have it and want it and it’s of value, buy it! And then enjoy it! Take that nice rifle hunting with your Rolex on your wrist!
Eat, Drink, and be merry for tomorrow we die! And I know this for a fact as I went to work at a business I owned one day and ended up in a pool of blood on the floor fighting for my life and then spent the best part of the next year in a hospital bed!!!!
Go on that hunt you dreamed of! Take that custom rifle with you! And never look back!!!

IMO - Fiat currency, can be, literally, not worth the paper it is printed on.

I remember a guy that I flew back from Africa with in 2007 who showed me his receipt for breakfast in Zimbabwe.

It was over $100,000!


Everyone needs some money in the bank, but tangible assets are (financially), really, all that matters.

The few pretty guns I have left will never see freezing rain or snow. They also will never go mountain hunting or see heavy brush. Mountain hunting cured me of that.

Yes I know it’s what these firearms were designed for. But I’m still curious because that first scratch must hurt.

Those who paid $20,000, $50,000, $100,000+ for a quality bespoke firearm, do you hunt with it in Africa? Does it come along with you in the land cruiser and get beat up when in the bushveld.

I’m particularly thinking of the likes of Rigby, Jeffery, Holland and Holland, Westley Richard’s etc.

Yes, I always take my nice rifles to South Africs but I have an Cabellas aluminum bullet proof roll a round gun case that protects then very well. I know that the anti gun or animal rights baggage handlers frequently drive over gun cases. Get good gun insurance a couple months prior to your trip. Be sure you list each gun with serial number the US government so you have proof you travel and keep the African Border Police inport paperwork as proof that you had it with you. If you loose a gun in South Africa you might have a problem returning home on your scheduled flight. Don't let the hotel store your rifles in their "gun room". My .500 NE Rigby double and my Weatherby .460 magazine rifle stays with me in the Holiday Inn Garden Center. My Son caries our Winchester .375 H& H "meat guns" in his duplicate gun case.

I fully agree with all you Gents here who hunt fine weapons the world over, the only "Safe Queen" around here wears lipstick and dresses ; ]

As far as currency, I have invested heavily in hillbilly metals, ""copper and lead,"" on a serious note, and in times of total collapse, a rich man would dump thousands of dollars in your lap for a simple AR-15 and one fully loaded 30 round p-mag.

After all, a mans life, and that of his family has the most worth of all.
