We get way too many snakes down here in Florida. Normally, they aren't too much of a bother, but the Taurus Judge is pretty handy for sorting out the ones that get too close for comfort (much to the dismay of my neighbors). With that said, what really makes me freak out is the pythons. Those get blasted to very small pieces with whichever gun is on hand.

I have been in Zim during September, October, November, December, April, and May. During that time I have seen very few snakes. We hunted the Selous and September and saw quite a few snakes.

I like to see them, and am not overly scared of snakes. Trackers will see them in a heartbeat.

I see far more snakes in Louisiana.

Born in Thibodaux (Dad taught at Nichols) and grew up in Lake Charles. Guided for the old Chateau Charles duck hunting operation when I was a starving student. Now that I am more or less retiring, we are moving down to the Hill Country and will be a lot closer to the marsh country.

All I can say is I am thankful i live in the Great White North. I did some trg in Ft Polk, which included an intro to some creepy crawlies there and saw my fair share of African snakes while patrolling in DRC. If i don't see anything but a snow snake ever again i will be content!

I graduated from LS and U, majored in zoology and did a LOT of time wading in the swamps in south Louisiana, frequently neck deep, pulling seine nets and collecting critters. I've been face to face with Mr. Smiley No-Shoulders pictured above, I mean close. I became very calm and stealthy in my retreat, I also traded ends of the net with some fool who said he would take it. I think he was a Yankee boy...

Fortunately their fangs are in the back of their mouths and it is difficult to get bit by them... Blending in so well, I did not see him when I leaned my rifle against the tree. When I as walking back to pick up my rifle, something caught my eye - I think I cleared the truck rack in a single leap! My PH sent the trackers to chase him off with a VERY long stick...

Boomslang bite = it's all over baby! Since their bites are pretty rare, anti-venin is not easy to come by from what I've been told...
