The 200 dollars is the cost of the tax stamp, that alone should tell people all they need to know. They don't have to risk the cost of the suppressor and the 270+ day wait for one. God forbid if it gets lost in transit. That is not something I want to be scrutinized over, risk being allowed to own any additional NFA items.

You will need to check with the country of destination with reguards to having your weapon. Also you will have to check with customs on how to re-enter the country.

As to the Suppressor-- Hell I am nervious about travelling out of state let alone out of the country.

My simple advice ... leave them both at home.

Just purchased 5 hard use cans for 299 each. I really like the can (already had one @ 850.00) when the deal popped up I loaded up.

Suppressors are like everything else, technology is paying off and competition is making it more affordable.

Right now the only rifles I'm not worried about suppressing are my 22 and my larger bore (375 and up). It is worth the investment in my eyes and ears.

Wife and I just back from NZ. Took our suppressors without any incident. Had 4457s and the ATF form, everything was smooth. Flew from Houston on purpose. More questions in NZ about my cigar cutter than rifle and suppressor.
Last year had African PH buy suppressor, about $350, as we flew through Newark.

It is mine also, my comp 22 has a 1.2" straight tapper barrel 24" long. It is built for comps and with subs which is all i shootout of it is pretty quiet. A suppressor is another variable you need to contend with in a match setting. It can change the harmonics as it gets dirty not a big deal or can cost you alot of points. Especially if you are shooting at a 300+ yard target at the end of the match.

Center fire doesn't have that issue, I have seen people loose points due to some loosening up.

My plinking 22s will throw a suppressor on them no questions asked.

I am not sure where all the BS speak is coming from. I have had multiple buddies of mine travel with suppressors to SA with no issues. Some of them even being checked upon return to the US. All they did was show the 4457 and a digital copy of their FORM 4 with tax stamp and approval.

Also, a lot of the bigger silencer shops online outline international travel as one of the main questions and tell you exactly how to do it. Both Silencer Shop and Silencer Central declare all that is mandatory is to file a 4457.

The atf denied my 5320.20 with "incorrect form"...

I decided to just avoid all of this and coordinated with my PH to purchase a suppressor that will work for my rifle. I intend to leave it with him so other hunters can use it, including myself, on later trips.

I’d even be reluctantly happy paying the $200 tax.. if the government could figure out how to make the current 9-12 month wait go away..

Purchased 6 suppressors last year. 4 were in my hands in an average of 84 days. The other 2 one is at 229 the other is 208 and 5 this year are sitting at 5 days (I'm guessing a year long wait now).

I know what you mean, it is ridiculous that a muffler takes a year and the instrument it attaches to that causes the bullet to travel on it's path. Well that background happens rather fast.

so much for the ATF promising that the E Form 4 was going to permanently speed up the process..

Silencer Central is reporting they are just now getting approvals back on applications submitted March-May of 2022 (basically a year ago..)..

while the ATF swears they have an entire separate group of people working the flood of anticipated SBR applications based on their new "brace" determination and that Form 4's for suppressors will not be negatively impacted at all.... I'll go on and call it now... LIARS... I'd be willing to bet Form 4's actually slow down and anything submitted over the next 12 months will take 16 months or longer to process..

I like the idea of leaving a suppressor in Africa but I don't always go back to the same people or countries although I almost always go through Johannesburg . I wonder if one of the companies out of Johannesburg (like Rifle Permits) would store your suppressor for you obviously for a fee?

the tax & the wait definitely sucks. When I get back from SA in May I will be going the trust route with my next set that I order. I figure this wait will suck less since I already have two to use in the meantime that are individually owned.

The price would definitely come down if they stripped suppressors out of the NFA but that wont ever happen.

Ive got an attorney that would probably put your trust together for you free of charge if youre needing someone to draft everything for you.. he likes jarheads for some reason

another option is if you purchase from Silencer Central, they will set you up a trust free of charge as part of the purchase arrangement..

Obviously talk to an attorney, I believe you can do a single shot trust. That would allow you to sell said suppressor to someone without going through all the regular red tape. The reason is you are then selling the trust.

That is the way it was explained to me.

I personally did a trust, my children might not have any of my money to spend, they will have a lot of cool toys to play with Hahahaha!!!

Will let you all know in a few weeks how it went taking my suppressor. I have 4457 and an Approved ATF form for travel to South Africa for it. Taking copy of tax stamp also. Depart and arrival is Houston on Qatar. So not really worried about Customs or TSA.

If it is on a trust, you will need a copy of that too. (Just in case)
