US Travel Bans/Restrictions South Africa

Prime minister here, even though he is an idiot, has cautioned against ANY international travel.

the hospital my wife works in still has half of the pediatric ward shut down , in order to treat the sick adults. Cases are going down ,but icu is still too damn full.

Hopefully a handle on it in the next year. I want to hunt.

So much for any hope of reasonably priced flights to Africa this year.
I’m just hoping British Airways doesn’t screw me over because if I have to rebook it’s going to be round two and they told me I only got one freebie the first time.

A friend of mine is a maternity ward nurse. She told me a few weeks ago that every fourth woman coming in to deliver has been COVID positive.....this thing isn’t going away any time soon, we are either going to develop herd immunity and/or how to live with it....with 5.5 billion people on this rock there is zero way to get rid of it.

As I’ve said Biden will put in all kinds of restrictions for a little while. The virus is on its way out anyway but he will take credit this spring and all will be lifted.
Remember Obama had everyone stop reporting H1N1 so it would “go away”.

I have been saying since last February. Don't worry everyone!!! Biden will win the election and cure The Rona. Phillip is 100% right. Biden now needs to do something even though the virus is already on its way out. Otherwise people will criticize his campaign about "having a plan" and not doing anything. Come spring he is going to go on TV and say because we shut down borders right away (even though he criticized Trump for doing that to china) and now we don't have the African Rona. Biden's "plan" started before any of us even heard of Corona Virus.

My flights are booked for June 22nd. I will be at the airport early. I am going to a country that has far more dangerous diseases that you are heavily exposed to on a daily basis. Sure as hell not letting a flu stop me from going.

There is no new strain. Viruses mutate constantly, this is just hysteria. I guess it’s working! Actually the UK variation is less dangerous reportedly.
Sadly I am sure international travelers will need the vaccine.
Africa is worth it!

Another correct point. I am a global director of sales for a medical device manufacturer. And I either directly talk to healthcare practitioners all over the world or get feedback from my team. Ask any virologist and they will tell you that Covid 19 has already had thousands of new strains since day one. It mutates constantly. But just like the flu you typically don't get it again in the same year as it has not mutated enough to have enough different properties that your immune system would not recognize it. Typically that happens annually.... hence flu shots are annual, hence flu season is a annual party. In Canada our main weather man is The Weather Network. On the app since apps began, they have tabs for weather, allergy reports (showing pollen levels), bug reports (black fly season, mosquitoes etc) and we have a flu report. This was all normal stuff prior to Covid. But now we have rebranded the flu as Covid and every winter we are going to hear about the "new strain".

I personally believe the real pandemic is the misinformation in the "information age". Now everyone is a Facebook scientist and reads garbage that absolutely anyone can author these days. And there are a lot of people who genuinely think this is a apocalyptical type disease. I would bet more of them then those who realize this is just a really bad flu. That is going to be very hard to just "make go away". I know politicians love to sell fear, and use the media to do their dirty work. But I think this time they went too far. And now are going to have a hell of a job correcting for this.

It will not be a problem to “get tested” over there before you come back.
I agree, as I got tested in both Namibia and SA while there in November. Just one of those things ya have to do.... or stay home.

I am still buying tickets for an April hunt. If travel is closed I'll get my money back, if not, I have my tickets.
Me too, I'm NOT staying home because of it.

I won’t stay home either but I will get the vaccine as soon as it is available. I lost one of my best friends to COVID yesterday. He was 60 and healthy.

We have had eight folks come down with it in our small country church since Christmas. Symptoms range from a mild cold to my buddy’s death. Four of the eight cases developed into pneumonia. From what I am seeing you don’t want to catch this crap.

Sorry for the untimely loss of you friend. I have asthma and don't expect to survive if I get it.

Is it true that the WHO has come out recently and said they would not be counting the first false positive for the number tally, you now have to test positive twice for it to be counted? Wouldn't that mean the numbers they show on TV will suddenly start dropping? A miracle, look, numbers are dropping. Way to go Joe!
And now suddenly the left is all about opening bars and restaurants as soon as possible. I think Trump wanted to do that and caught nothing but grief from the left.

In line yesterday for half hour to get the first shot at the local DMV inspection lanes. The preceding day was a clusterf**k. A buddy was there for four hours. They had their shit together today, six lanes open. You had to have an appointment and a QR code at the first checkpoint. Green ticket meant you had all your info correctly filled out. Since this was a government operation, I was impressed.

Very sorry to hear about the loss of your friend. Very sad and too many folks have been impacted by this bug.

My PH said not a problem...thank goodness....so as of now I'm going. Unless dementia Joe imposes restrictions on US citizens, which wouldn't surprise me in the least.

If United is still flying in April, I am still going, as long as the outfitter will have me. As for getting a test in SA, I can't imagine that is an issue, very worst case you have to shave a hunt day off to go get a test. Better than watching hunting videos at home on the couch.

Well my wife is officially freaking out about my trip in April. Right now the ban doesn‘t apply to US citizens re-entering but not sure how I’m supposed to get a COVID test three days before my return date when I’m only in country eight days and will be in the field. Trying to decide what to do as this was only a one-week hunt I’m going on and the testing requirement both ways is putting a damper on things. My guess is with the new strain that has hit SA it’s only a matter of time before US citizen restrictions are imposed. Grrrrr, having to cancel for the second year in a row is going to really piss me off :(

Sir, most cities in South Africa have a testing center. Your outfitter should be taking care of you. Worst case scenario is that you will need to give up a morning hunt an get the test two days before your departure date. Your PH will take you to the location for the test. Let them send the results to his phone, then he can forward it to you. ( Might be a good idea to download Signal or Whatsapp)

2,822fps, ES 8.2
This compares favorably to 7 Rem Mag. with less powder & recoil.

I know that this thread is more than a year old but as a new member I thought I would pass along my .280AI loading.
I am shooting F Open long range rather than hunting but here is what is working for me and I have managed a 198.14 at 800 meters.
That is for 20 shots. The 14 are X's which is a 5" circle.
