I am looking for a US-made (preferably New Haven) Model 70 Classic Stainless in a long action magnum caliber (7mm, 300 WM, 300 RUM, 338 WM, etc.) to use as the basis for a custom build. Condition isn’t terribly important as long as the action is sound. I’m aware of the options on GB and GI, but figured somebody on here may have one taking up space in the safe.

I’d also consider a .375, but that would be separate from this project.

I have a few pre-64 mod 70’s, 2 in 300HH and 375HH if interested

It would be a major sin to re-chamber a 300 H&H, especially a pre-64.

I am currently only looking for a modern stainless one to butcher. It would be a shame to alter an original pre-64 for my purposes. Thanks!
I believe I have one in 300 Rum but it's really nice so be a shame to butcher that. At too low a cost anyways...haha.

Might be worth it to make a 404 Jeffrey:) That is what I bought it for but probably not going to now as I bought a M70 in 404 Jeffrey.

I do want to build a 404 eventually, but that’s some way down the road. I’m currently torn between building a 300 PRC do-all mountain elk rifle (most practical) or a 375 all-weather working express rifle (way cooler).

DM me if you’re serious about selling that RUM!

Wouldn't a 375 Ruger action work better for a 300 PRC.... I ask because I really don't know but seem written that the 300 PRC is based on the 375 Ruger cartridge.

300 PRC actually has a longer COAL than the 375 Ruger, at 3.700” vs 3.340”, and the same case head diameter as the standard magnums at 0.532”. It’s closer in dimensions to the 300 RUM than anything.

Also, my preference is for the Winchester actions over the Ruger, although I’ve never handled one of the latter that’s been reworked by a real rifle smith.

I have a 300 Win Mag that I would potentially part with. Its a modern model 70 made in Portugal, it an extreme weather stainless steel model. The trigger has been upgraded to a Timney, I had the action bedded in the stock by a gunsmith. When I turned the gun over to the gunsmith for action bedding, I requested him to go through it and address anything he discovered that would adversely impact accuracy, as a result he cleaned up the barrel crown.

PM me if you want to discuss it, but this is a well functioning rifle that is in great shape with upgrades so its not going to be priced like a project rifle.

Thank you, however I am really looking for a New Haven gun to build. I have a substantial deposit down with my smith, and would to keep some sort of budget with this project!

Be well, sir.

One bruise. I'm afraid it got that during the move from Minnesota to Texas.

trperk1, I bought the Kimber Caprivi 375 back in an earlier post. You attached a target with an impressive three rounds touching 100 yards. I took the 2x10 VX5 off and put a VX6 HD Gen 2 1x6x24 Duplex Firedot on the rifle. It's definitely a shooter curious what loads you used for the group. Loving this rifle so fun to shoot. Africa 2026 Mozambique. Buff and PG. Any info appreciated.

Hello:
I’ll take the .375 Whitworth for $1,150 if the deal falls through.
Thanks .
