What do you do if it does the same as the 3 to 5 junker? Don't know about others but recently had a wreck and Enterprise rented us a full size for around twelve hundred for a month. Checking their website, small SUVs run around $335 a week, price dependent on where you pick up and drop off. Your arriving airport location could arrange the rental.

Can this expense be a tax writeoff? Not sure how it works over there. On this side leases are usually the way to go for tax purposes.

As for purchasing a vehicle I wouldn't. I have two vehicles, that are quite capable but you never know when something is going to break. I can show a potential purchaser all the service records from the day that I purchased them, but all that means is that I keep records and either one could break down as I pull out of my driveway.

I would look very hard at renting one. On the plus side you will possibly get a very new vehicle and while it may of been driven hard by a previous renter it should be just fine for the length of time and the miles that you will be looking at.

If you are using a TA for your trip have them check into the long term rentals for the airport that you plan on flying into and out of, they may be able to get you a good deal. If not check the prices on a number of vehicle rental agencies. I had a friend fly into Wyoming for a antelope hunt and he rented a brand new Ford F150 4 door 4x4 truck for a very good price from Enterprise. I know that the airport near me rents 4x4 SUV's because most are used to access the ski resorts in my area.

Hard to beat this advice. Rent airport to airport, buy the insurance and don't put yourself or your host at risk if some knucklehead plows into you.

Maybe someone on here has an extra rig they can let you use in exchange for a hunt?

Now that is the smartest move by far!!!!! You could most likely with this option get someone to fly to your last trip point to get their vehicle back only having to arrive one time to pick it up

We are planning some meet and greets with some friends of clients that have hunted with me before,

Increase your budget to $7-10k, and look for the following:

- Car: 1997 or later Lexus LS400, or if you're lucky, a 2001-2006 LS430; or,

2. A relatively clean 2003-2009 Chevy Suburban Z71 or GMC Yukon XL for plenty of space to haul all your gear, a nice ride, and decent mileage.

Regardless, expect to spend $1,500-4,000 in maintenance for whatever you buy. Just a set of tires is going to set you back $1,200-1,500.

I bet that someone from AH is willing to pick you up in their SUV and chauffeur you around while your here.
IRS allowable milage @65.5 cents a mile and all expenses- to be traded for trophy fees on their next Africa hunt at your place....
That saves you having to buy a beater with a heater, insurance, and driving in the States....

There definitely is a stigma with them, think (lesbian soccer mom) BUT.. Subaru’s are fantastic cars.

In particular I like the Foresters. We have owned a few Subarus and they are small SUV like and about bomb proof. I’m not sure their price point for decent used.

Good outfits but not enough clearance for hunting off pavement. Suburu has a new model with a lot more clearance. Can't think of the name right now. They make quality stuff for sure and used price tag usually reflects high demand.

The stereotype is definitely real. Every "cougar" has to drive a Suburu (usually white) with kayak on top and labradoodle dog inside. There's a million of em.

He's on a marketing trip to book hunts with future clients. Hunting "off pavement" likely isn't a concern for his 3-4 week trip, so not sure how/why that part of your comment applied to this thread.

Maybe it's a generational thing but "cougar" and "lesbian" aren't exactly synonyms.

Under the radar, which I believe is the most important. Good gas mileage. Lots of storage space. Can be had for your budget with lots of life left in it. Easy to drive. Worse comes to worse...you can sleep in it. You can buy it for a song and probably sell it for the same before you leave.

My mom drove a 2004 for years. By the time she was done with we just gave it someone who needed it. It required very little maintenance. The only problem we had was the gravel dust jamming up the sliding doors.

Some of those had rear cargo door setup ... sort of. Back window popped up and tailgate split to open to sides. Very unique.
