What’s your hunting bucket list

If I ever had a "List" I'm pretty sure it has been more than filled. I've been so fortunate to have had the opportunities I have enjoyed.
At an early age, I wanted to hunt our local Saskatchewan Canadian game - all our waterfowl, small game and both whitetail and mule deer. Check. Then my ambitions evolved to black bears and moose, game that required an expedition and considerable wilderness skills. Check. Then I got an addiction to elk hunting. That has continued for thirty more years, successful every year but last. Pronghorn Antelope competed my quest for available species of local game. Check.
Somewhere in-between, I needed to hunt our Western/Northern mountain game. Backpack and horseback hunts for Yukon and British Columbia Dall sheep, Goats, mountain Caribou. Check. (Except that the goats and the mountains that they live in beat me every time, despite a valiant effort on several hunts)
Then my attention turned to Germany. Wild boar, and Roe deer. Check.
And then Africa. I suppose Buffalo were always on the "list" and If I think about it some more, Kudu and Warthog were "must haves". Check. But I never in my wildest dreams expected to hunt bull Elephant, Giraffe, Gemsbok, Eland, or several other worthy critters in Africa. So those were just bonus experiences and cherished for their special combination of circumstance, and opportunity.
I still have never hunted barren-ground Caribou in Canada, so that's happening in September.
After that, my plans revolve more around sharing with family and friends the "how to" I've gained from that 50-some years of wonderful experiences than adding to any personal lists.

I’ve had a couple safaries to Africa but with a stroke a heart attack cancer back again and a new hip in the works it’s just great to look forward to any kind of hunting at 75. My life has been good with lots of dreams fulfilled. I hope all of your dreams come to fruition

I don't have a "bucket list" per se, but have several animals on my trip to SA this September: Nyala, Bushbuck, Blesbuck, Black Wildebeest, Impala, Springbok, Burchell's, and Buffalo. I'll just have turned 73 for the trip, so just looking forward to enjoying another experience. If I'm fortunate to go to Africa a third time, I'll make a list at that time. Until then, I still hope to enjoy deer, elk, and antelope in Colorado.

The N.A. "mountain" animals, while I might still be able:

Mountain Goat
Bighorn Sheep (any of the various species)

A Grizzly Bear (Coastal Brown, preferably), but it seems like prices have gotten stupid.

Any of the Big 5, that I have not taken:

Elephant
Lion
Rhino
Leopard
(in that order)

Plains Game:
A good Waterbuck
A good Sable

My bucket list is no longer specified in species. I’ve been fortunate to have done enough of this to know what I like. It’s all about new experiences in new places and sharing them with people close to me. I hope I never tire of hunting buffalo, bushbuck, mule deer and quail.

Its pretty long but will give the abbreviated version.

Finish Big 5 (1 to go)
Sheep Slam (2 to go) - Not sure I will finish this one.
All Bushbuck sub species (5 to go)
Ibex in as many countries as possible (Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Pakistan)

One more trip to Mongolia and One more trip to Tanzania.

Bonus: Macro Polo and One more Elephant.

Plan to burn my Mule Deer Points and get a Mountain Lion.

Then will spend my time chasing birds and fish.

I strongly encourage anyone with an interest in the jungle hunts of the equatorial African countries of Cameroon, CAR, Congo, and Gaboon to make the journey. I went in May 2024 and am still appreciative, blessed, thankful, and grateful.

Spectator and beautiful place, but, in full disclosure, probably some of the most difficult and remote hunting on the planet. Nothing is easy in the jungle but its an amazing place that you will never forget.

We saw bongo, sitatunga, dwarf forest buffalo, lowland gorillas, forest elephants, duikers, monkeys, numerous exotic birds, among other animals.

Best of luck in all of your hunting, trips, and dreams, TheGrayRider a/k/a Tom.

Have done all I’ve wanted in Africa and US. However, I would like to do at least one more “free range” pheasant hunt like we enjoyed “back in the day” in western Kansas. In 2025, sadly unobtainium anywhere.

Not sure what you mean. There are
Plenty of wild birds in the dakotas to keep you busy.

Here's mine, a mishmash of countries and species in no specific order:

Elephant with my .416 Rigby
Leopard
Hunt in Moz, Namibia, Botswana at some point
Moose (Maine or BC)
Another Elk hunt
Hunt/tour Spain, Romania, possibly Italy and France
Visit the Luangwa valley once more
Hunt/tour Australia

I'm sure there will be more that pop up in the future also!

I would like to finish my North American waterfowl collection with a king eider, Barrow’s goldeneye and a fulvous whistling duck along with a Aleutian Canada goose and a cackling goose (minima).
As far as big game the 9 principal species of spiral horned antelope and all subspecies of bushbuck. Finish the tiny ten.

Free range pheasant are easily obtainable in the Dakotas and eastern Montana. You might have to work for them on public land but they’re there.

Currently working my way through the North America "Super 10". Still need elk, goat, sheep, mountain lion, bison, caribou and pronghorn.

Africa-wise: All the larger plains game in addition to Cape Buffalo, Hippo and Elephant.

Europe: Alpine Ibex, Spanish Ibex, Red Stag, Carpathian Chamois and wild boar.

Asia: Mid Asian Ibex, Bezaor Ibex. An Argali would be great but $$$.

Australia & NZ: Waterloo Buffalo, Benteng, Chamois and Tahr.

So many wishlist hunts, so little time and limited resources.

Those are really my thoughts too. I was lucky enough to achieve my ultimate bucket list hunt. My focus now is seeing new areas. I just want to have good hunts in new areas. The species aren’t so important, but I really hope I never get tired of hunting eland or roe deer.
