What do you like about where you live?

Dallas--you know, home of the Cowboys....give a ring if you can while you're here!
@steve white
You don't seriously consider the Dull ARSE Cowboys a team do you. That's like saying the 243 is a good cartridge. Both fairy tales.
Now the GREEN BAY PACKERS that's a real team.

So it was YOU that started the invasion of Californians in the early to mid 90s!?! :V Make My Day: Yanno you left the gate open behind you!!! :S Rant: Seemed like every other vehicle we saw had CA plates on it in those days as Colorado Springs became the new Silicone Valley.
Colorado is the 8th state I've lived in, and the 1st I got to choose to live in (Dad was a Marine pilot). Still like living here, although I'd rather a return to the politics 20+ years ago instead of the BS being shoved on us by the flake in the Governor's seat leading the dark blue House & Senate.
Only real complaint is that it's getting too crowded for my tastes, even out here on the prairie. When I arrived 42+ years ago, once the ridge east of the Springs was crested, it was a black void at night. Just a handful of sodium lights dotting the landscape. Now, it looks like a city. Fortunately, my house backs up to a large sandcreek, with state trust land and a sod farm to the east, so I can shoot in the backyard and not see the crowding in of homes. Good chance I'll be putting the house on the market if/when a big box store lands in Ellicott, and look to buy towards the eastern border or even in west Kansas. Bonus is that will put me closer to my son and his family who already call western KS home.
Hard to beat the access to hunting here, and the view of Pikes Peak with a fresh skiff of snow on her. That view never got old driving to work in the morning. 300+ days of sunshine coupled with typically mild weather (short episodes of extreme cold in the winter, short sessions of extreme heat). Usually we have all 4 seasons; sometimes in the same day! lol
Ha! Ha! When I moved here in ‘89, there was almost NOBODY from anywhere moving here. There were NO jobs and for a time, it was the foreclosure capital of the country due to the ‘87 Savings and Loan implosion. It seemed that every other home in many parts of the city/county were vacant and foreclosed on. I took a 50 percent pay cut to move here. It was worth it to me because I was able to hunt elk, deer and pronghorn. But now, it’s become California West to a certain degree, although not even close to the toilet Denver has become. It is what it is and has become.

I grew up in upstate South Carolina, Greenville specifically. It would be a great place to retire. Decent weather and reasonably good health care. Lots of public land for hunting and not too expensive clubs for private land.

I have a vacation home in St Michaels in the Eastern Shore of Chesapeake Bay. Good hunting for waterfowl deer and turkey. Lots of retirees in town but healthcare is limited except that Johns Hopkins is about 90 minutes away. Town is about half retirees and half weekenders. Retirees are from all over. My neighbors are from San Jose, Greenwich Connecticut and New York City.

I live by the sea in southern Norway.. We enjoy pretty nice summers with boating and a nice archipelago outside..

I also enjoy being at our mountain cabin..good grouse hunting in the fall, trekking, skiing in winter..

The cabin..

Yes, I love many things about where Wife and I live, cant see or hear anything people-y from here, nothing behind this farm for 25 miles across the mountain till you get to another small town in OK and one more to the East over in AR, I lit here in 1998 at 35 years of age in preparation for retirement in 2003 at 40, my reflex and vision scores were such at 40 years of age I was offered another 10 years, finally got shook loose in 2015, still consult for the outfit.

SE Ok mountain country largely polices itself, it really is different here, not to sound like that Tackleberry diptwat from an old cop comedy movie, but the free state of Oklahoma has a make my day law, in 2017 they even added to the make my day law, you can, with all the deadly force you can muster, defend yourself, your family, any other person in need and your property here without fear of prosecution from DA's that think criminal felonious scum has more value than you, the law abiding, tax paying citizen.

Also, this county is a 2nd Amendment sanctuary county, another bonus, a justified shooting is dead in the water, recorded, filed and forgotten, the recently departed felons family is chit outta luck, they can not sue you in this state.

So yes, I'll travel and hunt Africa, but keep my boots planted right here, any good conservative, US Constitution minded folks living in oppressed commie states, come on over, we have plenty of room!

50G.

If you feel like taking a teeny detour and head straight north to western Canada I’d be happy to have you. There’s not even a .243 on the place!

Well sir, that's kind of like saying someone's baby is ugly. Just not nice for anyone outside the family to say it publicly...but the baby was a lot better lookin' back in the day! Thinking of Roger Staubach, and later Emmit Smith. I'm not a fair weather fan, though, so Cowboys do or die.

At least the Good Lord let some of us LIVE LONG ENOUGH to see the Texas Rangers win the World Series. Not sure how long I will have to live to see the Cowboys on top. Maybe if I could go to sleep like Rip VanWinkle. It has gotten ridiculous under Jerry Jones.

El Campo sounds like a good choice. So many tourist want to "see Texas" and are then disappointed there are no cows nor cowboys in Dallas or Houston. I grew up in East Texas in a place so small no one bothered to lock their doors or ever take the key out of their cars. You can probably get some REAL BBQ and TexMex food where you're going. Hope so.

But it you do swing thru Dallas, we'll do something even if we do it wrong. BTW, no 243's at this house, either. Never had one.

Reza Call me any time you want to talk about Elephant. hunting and CMS.
I've hunted two Elephant with CMS.
In 13 African safari's and an equal number of North American hunts, BUZZ is the best guide I have ever hunted with.
