What is your recourse when the taxidermist commits fraud?

Sorry to hear you got screwed.

I think it is worth repeating, don't get any taxidermy done in Africa. My PH in Namibia warned me before my first trip, saying whatever money you think you will save you will just spend trying to get it fixed in the US. He could make extra $$ going in cahoots with a local taxidermy studio but he is not interested in screwing folks over.

When I lived in Germany my taxidermist ALWAYS had mounts from SA/Namibia in there he was fixing for clients who tried to save a buck (or Euro) but having work done there. They ended paying 2x as much to have it done correctly............

all of the African animals in this picture were mounted in in Namibia. None have needed repair and all are what I shot. The measurements add up on the horns, the stripe pattern on the zebra is the same as do the scars on my kudu's nose. So I think it's worth repeating, take your time and be picky about your taxidermists. There is good and bad everywhere.

Congrats on the beautiful trophies. Of course there are good taxidermist all over the world. I would personally like to have a bit more control and hands on while my trophies are being mounted. At least in the US you have some recourse, trying to deal with a taxidermist in Africa from the US can be difficult at best.

Based on what I have seen, the bad taxidermists seem to outnumber the good in SA/Namibia.

I love that giraffe mount Ryan ! Beauty, great idea!

What is the skull on the floor? Is that a giraffe?

Looks like the giraffe. That huge dall sheep trophy gets in the way of my eyes thought:sneaky:

Thanks, I had to think that over with the usual 8' ceiling.
The Dall sheep is actually not huge at 37 1/2". 40" is the magic number to get one in B&C. But he is exactly what I think of for a Dall sheep so if I never get another I'm OK (though I'm not giving up yet...)
And yes, that is the giraffe skull on the floor.

Ryan the shape of that dall sheep is lovely!
