Which rifles run fastest for driven hunt

We had a GREAT one in DFW, just across from Bass Pro Grapevine. You were allowed to use any big game rifle of your choice, and I usually brought 3. There was also virtual instruction and a 100 yard tunnel range to sight in. It died because of lack of business!!!! And it was the only one at the time west of the Mississippi river.
If you find one, expect for your barrel to get mighty hot! I'm not sure its so good for your gun to get that hot. Even spelling out shooting with 3 rifles. But it is instructive. I wish it would come back, especially since this was before all the videos with Franz and Boar Fever. It might just be more populat now.

Also at that time I was not concentrating on speed, rather lead and accuracy.
My OP is about HOW to get your rifle running faster. Maybe need a gunsmith to chime in on how to polish and tune up a rifle?
I learned a long time ago that slow is smooth and smooth is fast. Concentrate on accuracy...and the speed will come in time. Perfect practice makes perfect.

@BeeMaa is 100% correct.

The fastest handling bolt action rifle which I've ever used, would have to be the Merkel Helix.

I've been fortunate enough to go on many driven hunts.
To prepare, the Germans made me shoot thousands of dry fire shots and hundreds of shots on a Cine-shot system. (Just for fun, you should see their reactions when you nail one of the dogs instead of a boar at the cinema... LOL)

I was always faster with a bolt action than a straight pull, and as Mr. Blaser (BeeMaa) above alluded to, smooth is fast! The fastest times I ever got, was with a Mauser M03, on which they sprayed a product called SchleTek on the bolt.
I was so impressed that I bought 4 tins of the stuff and use it on all my rifles.

It’s not traditional in Europe, but what about using a lever action on a driven hunt?
Akin to bringing a 12 bore semiauto on a dove hunt. You can do it, but it will draw some eyes of disgust.

Better to rent a rifle and spend the money on some nice tweed breeks.

Good Morning x84958
I have read your post about Jamy Traut and your hunt in Caprivi. I am planning such a hunt for 2026, Oct with Jamy.
Just a question , because I will combine Caprivi and Panorama for PG, is the daily rate the same the week long, I mean the one for Caprivi or when in Panorama it will be a PG rate ?
thank you and congrats for your story.
Best regards
Philippe from France

Hello Doug,
I am Philippe from France and plan to go hunting Caprivi in 2026, Oct.
I have read on AH you had some time in Vic Falls after hunting. May I ask you with whom you have planned / organized the Chobe NP tour and the different visits. (with my GF we will have 4 days and 3 nights there)
Thank in advance, I will appreciate your response.
Merci
Philippe
