Who has the most luxurious hunting lodges?

I'd consider asking him to make the following more important than the ambiguous and very subjective choice of the "best" lodge:
-reputation of outfitter
-what he wants to hunt
- trophy quality of area for what he wants to hunt
-references

Nice accomidations are a dime a dozen in Africa. Even the bushcamps are really nice. Your laundry gets done, staff is helpful and the food is great. When I think of the best safaris I have been on, the last thing I think about is the accomidation.

My best hunt in Africa, in a remote camp in the Omay in the Zambezi Valley, I did not see camp in the light until my 5th day there because that was the day I killed the second of my primary two trophies I was after. My two cents....I am also pretty ADHD, have way too high of a metabolism and rarely can sit still enough to enjoy a nice camp. Eventually I will slow down and smell the roses amd enjoy the diner things in life! Best wishes for you and your buddy!

npm352 advice above is correct... everyone has a nice lodge/camp with great food and service. (within reason, you will get what you pay for). Once you get past the white table cloth and glossy brochures (which we all also have) then the real search begins!

wilderness OR ranch
plains game OR dangerous game
a general bag OR a quest for a certain animals

There is a whole lot more to a great safari than the lodging; good research and your gut feeling in equal parts will land you with the right outfit.

and don't forget - a sleep number bed will not make up for an uncomfortable PH!

Hi Philip,

That would be great. You have experienced quite a big part of Namibia, but how about we go hunting in the Namib Desert?
Schalk you are tempting me and I have little willpower! We must make a plan.
Philip
PS it’s crazy you can so easily see the Namib Desert onGoogle Earth.

She will be so well fed, well taken care of, and over stimulated by the wilds in any good tented camp run by almost any safari company I have ever been with, that she will be HAPPY! Camps in Africa are so far ahead in creature comforts that any correlation with US operations is probably impossible. I would'nt cheat her of the experience of the "real deal."

I would rather great hunting on great animals and a bedroll for the night and a wood fire to cook on. I can stay in great accom anywhere where its at.

Sambarhunter,
Amen to that. If you want fancy, go to Vegas or some such. I go to Africa to hunt. Accommodations are secondary. As long as I have good food, a roof over my head at night and a good PH I'm happy. Most anything beats a cold MRE in a muddy foxhole.

Nothing like camping under the stars in the middle of the African wilderness.

Nothing like camping under the stars in the middle of the African Wilderness. Hunting the Namib Desert is quite a unique experience. Everyone I have taken there can not quit talking about it. It is harsh, vast and unique, yet game are plentiful.

Now that looks like a real hunting camp. Can't do much better than that.

Have to wonder why someone would spend 33 plus hours in a filthy aluminum tube just to go shopping or see a few animals. We have plenty of malls and zoos in the U.S. to do that.

Looks like an adventure!

IIRC, wasn't there a hunt in the tropical part of Africa where sleeping accommodations were in the trees?

Look if he is concerned more about making his wife happy than the hunt then so be it. Never really made that clear. For me give me good food ( hey I am Italian !) nice clean lodge, great PH and good hard hunt with lots of quality animals I am happy. Even a nice bush tent hunt somewhere remote is fine, long as there's good food after a hard days hunting and oh ya some nice wine. Think I covered it all!;)

Question is what are you going after in the desert with the double gun? Or is it the PH’s gun? Looks like fun.

On that specific hunt we were hunting Elephant in North Western Namibia.

That's a wrap, on our first hunt of this years season.

Hunting conditions are a bit tougher in South Africa during the month of February, but can be just as rewarding if done right.
