I'm sure there are a few here that have finished their spiral horn slam. Please share some photos. There must be a few more that are serious about the spiral horns. Who's close to being done? I'm nowhere near close but after this season I might be just under 1/2 way there. That's the easy part! I haven't been able to find the right bushbuck yet and I did pass up a big nyala last year. Who has or is chasing some of the more specialized species like lesser kudu, sitatunga, LDE, bongo or mountain nyala? If you were going to give some advice to those interested in the spiral slam, what would it be? Who would you recommend hunting with for good success rates on representative trophies from the spiral horns? Any particular reading you would recommend? I like these 2 books plus Peter Flack's excellent book series on the spiral horns.

I’ve read Peter Flack’s book. I’m contemplating finishing my spiral horn slam. Would still need a LDE and Mountain Nyala. I love the spiral horned species and most plains game. I try to hunt areas with one or two spiral species available when planning dangerous game hunts. I went to Zambia specifically for a sitatunga, as well as the three lechwe species and giant sable. Didn’t even seriously hunt buffalo when there. I am of the opinion that dangerous game doesn’t always have to take precedence for me. Good luck to you and hope you get the spiral horn slam!

Nice Scott! I hope you finish it. In case we are talking about different things, did you know that Flack has 7 books on individual species including all of the spiral horns, buffalo and hippotrages (sable and roan)? He has other good books too but these are the only books I know of dedicated to one or two species for each book. Great stuff.

Amazing!

Maybe in my next life :ROFLMAO: Good luck with your quest. (y)(y)

This topic is really for anyone who enjoys hunting spiral horns and I think that's most of us. I would love to hear what you're going after next...bushbuck...nyala...maybe it's kudu every time? It's not an upper crust topic really. Most of us like chasing and eating kudu, eland, etc.

Some South African outfitters have created a spiral horn "slam" marketing angle that, if I am not mistaken, includes just kudu, eland, bushbuck, and nyala. A few years ago we were visiting friends in South Carolina and were invited to a party hosted by folks we didn't know. The host invited the gentlemen into his trophy room commenting that he completed his spiral horned slam. Suitably impressed, I immediately started to question him about his mountain nyala hunt - had to be a great story right? Apparently he had completed the Limpopo version.

I was hoping you would reply. You've taken most or is it all of the spiral horn species?

Next is lessor. Trophy fee ranges from a low of $4500 to a high of $8000 plus the $10k license upgrade. After that Nyala and done.

A great post @Green Chile I love chasing the Spirals! This quest takes you all across the African Continent, to many different habitats and cultures.

Good luck to all in pursuit of their goals.

Any favorites among the spiral horns for you? Favorite trophy or species to chase? Any advice for those working on it?

Fantastic and congrats on completing it! How long did it take and what are your favorites to chase?

Me? Oh heck no. When it comes to hunting, I am not really goal oriented. Of all the spiral horns so far, my favorite is the Livingstone eland. No doubt because it was the most difficult, and the hunt took place in the low country of Mozambique in late October - ergo hot, humid, buggy, and lots of limbless reptiles.

I am confident at this point in my life that I will never hunt a bongo or mountain nyala.

Beautiful Livingstone. They are such impressive animals. I'm amazed how light on their feet they can be for such a massive antelope. That trot they break into is the sign of a LOOONG day ahead of you or the signal to move on to something else. I was really privileged to find this freaky long Livingstone in late Sept last year near Hwange Park...416 Rigby did the trick. I will never find a bigger one.

I shot my first Kudu and Bushbuck in Zim back in ‘86. I finished with the Mountain Nyala in ‘18, so 32 years.

Bushbuck have always been my favorite, I’ve taken six sub-species thus far.

You are correct. He is worth measuring and submitting for the book. Mine made gold, but yours dwarfs him.
