I got an education on steenbok in Namibia on my second hunt there. Drought conditions and little cover, couldn't get close to one without them bolting at the speed of light. Next try was in the Limpopo with a bow and heavy cover. Much better, I had a few almosts, but no cigar. Finally came back with the 375 Ruger and took the one in my profile pic by spotting it first and some patience. My bush (common) duiker was a great stalk on a windy day in the East Cape. I shot right over one in the Limpopo with an arrow, oopsView attachment 658717View attachment 658718. The only other I've got an urge to hunt is a klipspringer. It's high on a short list of animals I'd hunt if and when I get back.

The rest just don't get my attention. To each their own.

A lot of people say that about various animals they have only seen pics of. But when you get boots on the ground and see one then you want to pursue it!

100%. I was wrong to have no interest in them for multiple hunts. There are so many interesting things about them and then when you take one, you will notice so many fine details about them...their little hooves and all kinds of facial details and markings. When you see one sneaking through cover or stepping out for a bit of sunshine, they look like little jewels. I distinctly remember one red duiker pausing mid-step and shivering nervously...others that streaked around like they had been drinking too much caffeine. They are fantastic creatures.

That's one of those times you suck it up and pay the TF. You will probably never see him again. We've all been there. I passed up a bushbuck recently and my PH looked at me like I was nuts. I was focused on Sharpe's grysbok and we got him shortly after that.

Yes so true about those times you should just aim carefully and squeeze the trigger. Sort out the details later

Interestingly @Just Gina shot a Bushbuck probably half an hour before I got my red duiker She was hunting for a Klipspringer, which she has yet to get.... These things make it hunting! We always try to stay flexible

This thread has fired up my interest in the Tiny Ten. Now adding to this years list and guess what? Buying a rifle in .22 Hornet for the pursuit. Darned enablers and promoters on this site.

22 Hornet is a great choice and I highly recommend a lighted reticle on your scope. It's unlikely to get them out in the sunshine and you could easily have shots in thick cover and shade or low light.

I'm a big fan of the Ruger No. 1 but had successfully convinced myself that I absolutely did not need to buy the 22 Hornet that Lipsey's had released last year. You guys are not helping my problem with low will power at all.
