Why all the hate for CBL (Captive-Bred Lion) Hunting?

But what’s the difference between a bird , hog, and lion?
There all hunted or killed putting them where there not. But you don’t see the damming of birds and hogs. But it’s the exact same thing.
The animal is just different

My stance on ethnic are simply there no world wide except ethnics there is no stander
There for ethnics are your personal thing they mater to you.
That’s good. But your ethnics might not matter to me and my actions should not be controlled by your ethics no more than you should be by mine
When I say or have said ethnics are meaning less. It’s not your ethics for you that I am speaking of
It’s my ethics on you and yours on me that I am saying are meaning less

As a big bird hunter I’ve thought a lot about this. I think some of the difference comes in the why of the hunt.

I hunt large game because of the experience of pursuing them. I’m not interested in hunting a deer, hog, or lion that has been out there so I can hunt it.

With birds it is all about the dog work. I’ve had some form of bird dog for the last 25 years and in some years have hunted birds 85-90 days with one of those dogs. For one year I don’t have a dog due to an unexpected passing. I hunted some that year and hated it. If I had to hunt birds without my dog consistently I wouldn’t hunt birds.

So yes I hunt released birds but it is all about giving the dog experience. With released birds I can get more bird contacts. More training. Extend the season. I don’t really see them as hunting but as practice. I would never mount one. Or claim it was an accomplishment to kill one. I’m not hunting them for the experience of doing so or to say I did so. I wouldn’t put a picture on the wall of me with a tailgate full of released birds.

That’s why I don’t want to hunt a CBL. I wouldn’t hunt a lion for the practice. I’d be hunting one for the experience.

But again I have no problem with anyone who feels differently. I’m not sure it should be illegal. I just don’t think it’s for me.

My personal ethics are for me and me alone. Others are free to disagree. As long as we behave within the law.

Ok I understand the working of your dog
You brid guys like it like we like the baying of a hound.

But what if it’s someone else’s dog being used
Or one of the few walk up hunts. I don’t know how many of there hunts were or even how long they stayed in business.
There was outfit that has walk up and jump quail hunts they were cheaper than there dog hunts. I think they all so did a pheasant driven type hunt. But the birds were released towards the guns instead of driving them towards the guns. That was in fl
The birds had to be pen birds

I wouldn’t be going without a dog. If it is so time else’s dog and I’m doing the shooting so they can handle the dog it is till about the dog work.

I’ve worked a lot of driven hunts with my lab doing the picking up. Great way to get practice in steadiness and marking with a lot of chaos and birds in the air. I’ve shot a few of them but would rather be one of the guys working the dogs.

I have shot driven in Scotland but their birds aren’t released they are reared in the woods. They behave and fly a lot more like wild birds but the numbers wound it be sustainable without putting the chicks out. It’s actually a fascinating year long process how they raise them. In that instance the gamekeeper is trying to make the shooting as challenging as possible and they pride theirselves on the strength of the flying and difficulty of the presentation. Lots of great dog work on those shoots as well.

So yeah there is a sliding scale. I don’t view a grasshopper the same as a pheasant or a pheasant the same as a lion. I look at every situation and ask if it’s going give me the experience and satisfaction I want.

One thing I will agree with @375Fox on is just because something is legal doesn’t make it ethical. Same goes the other way. Everything that is illegal is not unethical. There have been a lot of corrupt governments in the world that made things legal that were totally unethical to me.

In Florida pheasants must be farm raised. I know it sounds odd, but the weather is too warm for the eggs. They are a tough bird but very vulnerable when young. Besides the eggs rotting if it's too warm, the chicks still require a spring warm enough to produce the bugs they need to eat. But if the spring is too wet, that can kill off chicks. A hail storm can also wipe them out.

Fortunately, I don't have to hunt pen raised birds. They're really not much fun. Pheasants and chukars often have to be kicked in the air before they will fly. Pointing dogs might get sort of a workout but a flushing dog will just catch your limit. If I want practice at flying targets thrown in the air, I'll go shoot skeet, not mentally retarded birds. I also look on CBL as "practicing" the real thing: make believe lion hunting. Man, that just is not for me. I'm sure I'll never check that box but my hunting has never been about checking boxes. That is repulsive to me. I generally hunt alone on foot stalking game, trying to make it as real as possible. Whether it's pheasants or buffalo, there has to be more than a mere semblance of reality. A lot more.

I talked to my cousin he went on one of the pheasant hunts / shoots with his father in law at that time.
He said you had to tell them how many birds you wanted and payed before the shoot
If any got by the guns they had a guy with a silianced 22 to ground shoot them.
Think the price was 21$ a bird about 15 years ago .
But you got all the birds to split between the shooting group
So I guess that’s a + maybe

Hello. I see you hunted with Sampie recently. If you don't mind me asking, where did you hunt with him? Zim or SA? And was it with a bow? What did you hunt?

I am possibly going to book with him soon.
Currently doing a load development on a .404 Jeffrey... it's always surprising to load .423 caliber bullets into a .404 caliber rifle. But we love it when we get 400 Gr North Fork SS bullets to 2300 FPS, those should hammer down on buffalo. Next up are the Cutting Edge solids and then Raptors... load 200 rounds of ammo for the customer and on to the next gun!
To much to political shit, to little Africa :-)
Spending a few years hunting out west then back to Africa!
