After watching this Chris Dorsey video a while back, the dream of hunting Red Lechwe by boat is stuck in my head.

At this years SCI in Nashville, I stopped to chat with the folks at Jeff Rann Safaris about Red Lechwe, Eland and Buff hunting in Botswana. Everyone, including Jeff were very polite and answered my questions thoroughly. At one time, their concession in Botswana had Lechwe on license, but this is no longer the case.

I've looked at the Jeff Rann Safaris website, and watched plenty of videos featuring Jeff, but can't find any threads about him on this forum, or anyone here who's hunted with him in Botswana.

Is it a price thing? Is there something that I'm missing? Just curious due to the lack of information here.

BTW, on the advice of several members, I've started to look at the Caprivi strip of Namibia for a Lechwe hunt of this type.

For a great authentic Lechwe experience in the Caprivi, you should contact Emile Kirchner at Kou Kuas. He has the Bwabwata West concession. @KOU KUAS ADVENTURES

Most likely this is because he is not sponsor here. Main reason.

His promo videos are attractive, but pricing is turn off for me.
There are hundreds of outfitters in Africa, that nobody mentions here. Not sponsors.

Speaking of Lechwe, I was in Caprivi last year, August, Plenty of Lechwe there,

I like Jeff Rann and would 100% (or better if that's possible) trust him (or Mark Sullivan for that matter) with a safari of mine. But, and this may sound silly, I want my PH to have a southern African accent. It's just part of my life-long expectations I have for Africa.

One of the most intense memories I have from Africa was my PH greeting me at the air port with his South African accent. My mind did a backflip telling me, "you are in Africa". I wouldn't trade that for anything.

What I gathered from talking with the guys at SCI was that the concession close to the OKV is a fantastic area for Elephant and other DG, and this is as much as they can handle. The PG hunts are mostly for clients that have finished their DG hunt. Oh to have an area like that to hunt. :K Love Eyes:

I shot mine on the Northern Cape, RSA. It was respectable. Just respectable. We saw quite a few both days hunting up there. It was quite a long drive (5+ hours) from our lodge so we stayed with the property owner. Got good animals but I really did not care for that guy.

It’s an area they are not native and in no way resembles the environment they are designed to live in. Hunting them in their natural habitat is a different discussion.

Right. Excuse me for hunting pheasants in Montana instead of China. I'm sure the experience of shooting them over authentic rice paddies would be so much more rewarding. :D :D

You have no clue where I was hunting lechwe. Both properties were comprised of river bottoms and large reservoirs. I believe that is their "natural habitat"?

Were you able to hunt with him on one of his concessions in Botswana, or in another location?
Our mutual friend Dave Bourban introduced me to him at the 777 Ranch in Texas (Dave was a client of Jeff's). We correspond a few times over the year.

It's my dream to hunt lion with him in Zambia someday soon. Or leopard over hounds with him in Botswana.

Northern cape with your famous Two waters safaris “lodge.” The northern cape does not resemble their natural habitat (see photos above). They have Lechwe in Texas as well if you’d like to save travel and see no difference in the hunt.

For the reasons mentioned in other posts as well as the cost of the hunts.

When you are talking about people that drop $100K+ for one Elephant, your dealing with a crowd that generally doesn't like their recreation choices being made public.

Also with that clientele you really do not need advertising.

+1 Great to deal with. I purchased custom rifle. No issues.

I saw you were looking for some Swift A-Frames for your 9.3. I just bought a bulk supply of them in the 285g. version. If Toby's are gone, I could let 100 go for $200 shipped you are interested.
Thanks,
Gary

Booked with Harold Grinde - Gana River - they sure kill some good ones - who'd you get set up with?
