Have to pick nits but the fact you cite tropical species and cyclical weather means that climate change is real. It sis the cause that is up for debate. The climate is always changing why and what we can do about it is the question and debate. But as you say enough about that.

True dat. Mother Nature is the only true arbiter on climate change. We ain’t that important in the grand scheme of things.

A synthetic stock is superior to a wood stock in basically every metric, except cosmetics. They are less impacted by temperature, humidity, air pressure. Good ones are more durable than a wood stock.

I love the look and feel of a wood stock. I used to hunt with a wood stock model 700 .270. It was a great gun, but when I traveled it was always off after flying. I have never had that problem with any rifle with a synthetic stock.

I am not wealthy financially-so I can’t justify custom or expensive wood stocks. But the ones I can afford see lots of use. If you want a youth to appreciate something, put it in their hands and let them make memories with it. Also the whole stock doesn’t need to be pink, maybe just the sling

I know that plastic/composite stocks are quite popular these days, but why is it increasingly difficult to find a new classic walnut gun? I understand carrying some black stocks, but keep the normal production of wood guns available.

I decided long ago that the only proper rifle was made of blued steel and walnut. I had to move to Western Washington 30 years ago and found that "The Great North Wet" was too hard on my nice rifles. I bought a Remington Model 7 in 7-08 with a synthetic stock and stainless steel. It's a nice light little rifle and I do like it, be t I still only take it out when the weather requires it. Plastic stocks just have no.soul. Long live walnut stocks!

Just buy the two superior examples I have advertised in the Classifieds. That solves that. It's ALL we had as kids and gosh golly they're still here! And if they happen to be fine wood, teach your kids to respect them (the world could use a bit more of that.)

Does anyone remember Fajen, Bishop, Flaig or Herter's? I got many seconds from Bishop and Fajen as a kid. I stayed with my Aunt and Uncle in Warsaw, Mo every summer.

I love wood. The early plastic stocks were noisey with a sound that alerted everything in the woods. They are better now. Some of my better rifles have both kinds available, as I do not take my nice wood stocks into the field, The truth is at my age I can not do the things like I used to.

Well, some people like water cooled Porsches, too... and will go to great lengths to explain why they are better. These explanations will be based on Science (TM).

I used to think that I liked the old air cooled Porsches until I got the chance to drive a new GT3 911 on a race track for a while. Holy smokes! That thing is so superior to the old 1986 Carrera that I drove that it was not funny. The older car did have that vintage fighter plane cockpit smell of paint, grease and hot metal and looks the part, but it drove like a big torquey VW beetle, which is to say not that well. The GT3 on the other hand enabled me to pass, two Ferraris, a Corvette C8 and one other Porsche without really pushing it to the limit. Sometimes the newer stuff really is better, lol. The GT3 does lack the old P51 cockpit smell. I love my old Mausers with wood stocks but, I can still appreciate a nice Seekins or Fierce carbon/Ti rifle as well. Each has its place.

Man-made climate change is what is a myth. Yes, the environment does change due to both solar output variances and factors on Earth but man's impact is relatively small. I am not in favor of raping the environment but the atmosphere is largely a self regulating biosphere at least with regards to CO2 emissions and global warming as long as we take care of the trees and plants on the planet. If you increase CO2 output the trees grow faster and absorb the excess CO2 and emit Oxygen. If you lower the CO2 they grow more slowly and absorb less. If we believe the greenie dweebs, then Elephant farts are destroying the environment and thus we should all go out and shoot Elephants and don't even get me started on all of them Cape Buffalo, lol

Bishop, Yes! Was my first (and last) effort at inletting and glass bedding. 1974 if memory serves.

'Still have the Fajen from my 1st 300 WM (it is bedded and shot VERY well.) Not too fancy (just better wood/checkering, Montecarlo and bedded w/ a nicer pad). One of their more basic pieces (for an Interarms M98.) Flaig's was the sort of W. PA variant of E. PA Paul Jaeger. I always thought he learned to carve wood by making coo-coo clocks! Jaegers are much better (have 2 for sale on here.)

Yes, a run of the mill Boxster can probably out handle an old 911, let alone a GT3. Probably faster, too. That is not the point.

I can appreciate a GT3 for what it is. But then the next new thing will come along. But a true 911 will always turn heads.

A composite stocked rifle is a tool. It is brutally competent, dependable, accurate, and efficient. The lower cost to produce means it can be manufactured and sold at a reasonable price. It resists weather. In an engineering sense, it is a very elegant solution.

But in other senses, it's not elegant at all.

I have a mixture of stocks. Synthetic, laminated and walnut.
My goto knock around of the UTV is a synthetic stock 243.
My goto rifle this year for deer hunting has been the Savage 110 Timberline.
By far my favorite rifles are walnut stocked, with Iron Sights and barrel band sling point.
I do plan on hunting our late rut with my Ruger African in 375 Ruger. 270 grain hand loads that are mild for a 375.
