The factory cross bolt in the Ruger African, is just a skinny screw that fits loosely....aka useless.

My stock had a small crack over where the screw is at the recoil lug. As soon as I started lowering the drill press, the wood chunk popped out.

I was planning to bed it with epoxy to take out any play, to prevent it cracking at the tang. The epoxy will just bind to the bolt sleeve I hope.

Wish me luck!

I also swapped on a Hogue recoil pad.

I would just bed it, however I’m no expert.
@sestoppelman would have a good idea what to do.
I was going to bed it anyway. I really wish I had just taken the $200 I was offered for the stock since it is immaculate.....or was. I love my Hogue stocks, but I figured the wood would look the part when I go after my buffalo. Not to mention it's 1 lb less.

I wonder if this is why so many .375 Rugers broke their stocks?

Mine is currently in the cure process, using JB Weld Epoxy with steel reinforcement. Since the little piece of wood had a crack too, I went ahead and broke that other piece out, and put a good coating in there, to ensure the recoil log sits solidly against the crossbolt.

What a great way to kick off our 2025 hunting season in South Africa.

This beautiful Impala ram was taken at just over 300 yards, took a few steps and toppled over.

We are looking forward to the next week and a half of hunting with our first client of the year.

Do you have any more copies of African Dangerous Game Cartridges, Author: Pierre van der Walt ? I'm looking for one. Thanks for any information, John [redacted]
