Word of caution (first hand) about hunting Mexico now

Sad, because my niece wants to have a destination wedding near Cancun next year...

I have heard multiple stories about hunts being cut short recently because cartels had to take over the ranch.
Unless trump takes over Mexico, i ain’t going there. But if he needs help, I’m in.

Everyone seems to know a guy who knows a a guy who ran into the cartels

Or it’s always the “few weeks after they leave” ect ect. It’s fun to tell stories!

Sounds like lots of stories... Everyone I know enjoys Mexico every year including my self.

What outfitter do you go with? I’m willing to go but want to be 100% confident in my outfitter and know multiple people with multiple trips with them. Thats where I’m running into issues. Getting that confidence.

Never hunted.

But have been to pacific city’s, the gulf beaches,

Mexico City, San Miguel, and small mountain towns.

My apologies.
Having re-read your posts I've realized that you are right...and every other member, who shared their experiences, were wrong.
Obviously, they were nothing more than stories, fabricated for your perusal and validation.
I'll make you a deal.
If you'll promise to never again comment on a thread of mine, I will afford you the same courtesy.
Deal?

I'm happy to adhere to such sage advice.
But please...carry on.

By his own admission..."never hunted" in Mexico. Yet bloviates and proffers his
" expert opinion"...on hunting in Mexico.
This is not a difficult calculus.

Ahh I see,

My family and I’s decades of traveling through the corners of Mexico is all nullified because of a lack of hunting on those excursions

I see, the fear mongering hearsay stories only happen to hunters? Is that what you are saying spike?

Make it make sense please

Tour bus companies thrive in Dallas because no one wants to cross the border alone. Since taking down El Chapo, the rules and the multiplicity of rival factions have changed.
Friends in "the valley" of south Texas went to a wedding just over from Brownsville. Before vows could be completed, shooting rang out in the neighborhood and all involved crawled out to their cars and departed.
They tell me you don't have to be anglo or even rich to be held for ransom these days.
Would I go to a resort, and stay on it these days? Yes, but I'm crazier than my Hispanic wife--she is worried about the upcoming destination wedding.

Fly in to SeaTac, rent car, drive to Port Angeles, take the Coho ferry to Victoria. You can leave the cars at Port Angeles. Everything easily within walking distance in Vicoria and weather is typically beautiful. Lots of bed and breakfasts and wonderful people. Everyone will be 100% safe. Don't need to be packing guns. You'll see when you get there. Without doubt the most relaxing tourist destination I've ever experienced. And my career with US Park Service took me to a LOT of tourist destinations. Oh, and don't forget the exchange rate massively favors your US dollars. But that may change after Trump starts his tariff war. Book now.

The timing of this thread is spooky for my family and me.
I have vacationed in the Playa del Carmen three times with my ex-wife, 2007, 2008 and 2011. Always felt safe and often left the resorts. Since then I have heard that it’s not as safe anymore.
Now my current wife has been wanting to go and we nearly pulled the trigger on a January trip to the same area. However she procrastinated getting her daughter’s passport application sent in and Canada Post went on strike for the month of December. I told her that I wasn’t going to book a trip if she didn’t have a passport so she wants to go next year.
Now if read this post and I am very reluctant to go. Don’t know what other Caribbean country to suggest but I’m going to show her this.
Yeah. Timing is everything as I sit here in my hotel in Ciudad Victoria for the past week and a week to go…lol. I also work for an NGO usually in Africa but we have a project here currently.

I leave Friday for a drive to the airport in Monterey back to Colorado,,, but will be back here often as the project continues. I think I will quit reading this thread until I am back home…

And this coming from a guy who has visited and worked in over 20 African countries and driving a motorcycle across many of them ….

Bob

It depends on one's combat ordinance inventory.

I may be not the baddest SOB in the valley, but I'm definitely going to make the one who thinks they are the baddest squirm for a bit.

When the time comes and at hand.....go out with a big bang.

Evil can be encountered just about anywhere. Certain levels of sophistication coupled with evil make the juice of some destinations not worth the squeeze.

Reza Call me any time you want to talk about Elephant. hunting and CMS.
I've hunted two Elephant with CMS.
In 13 African safari's and an equal number of North American hunts, BUZZ is the best guide I have ever hunted with.
