Word of caution (first hand) about hunting Mexico now

But is is it legal for Americans to take their guns to Canada? Part of the reason Mexico is a no-go for many of us is because we can't take a pistol.
You can bring a long gun but no ARs or handguns. Show me another country in the world except US (maybe?) that will let you enter with a handgun. I don't know of one. You will not need a handgun in Victoria. Better chance of being hit by a meteor than subject to gun violence.

Do not even think about taking a pistol to Canada. Dont even land in Canada on your way somewhere else with a pistol in your luggage.

Israel allows people with CHPermit to carry--I have friends who had done it!

A few years ago a golden age couple from a certain southern state were checked coming into Canada at the local crossing. They had nine undeclared handguns concealed in various locations inside their motor home ... including the bathroom. Asked why he had a Dirty Harry revolver stashed in the john, the guy said he felt most vulnerable to home invasion when taking a crap: "How d'y'all think I'm spose t'git to a gun t'save muh wife if'n m'pants is round m'ankles?" Some logic there I guess. But not enough to sway the border officers. He lost all his guns (which were doubtless melted down), paid a huge fine, and they both were banned from Canada for life.

Don't try to bring a handgun to Canada. Nothing new.

Actually, the incident was reported in the papers. Extra details were provided by a couple of LE guys at the trap club. The consensus seemed to be anyone that paranoid should be on meds.

Youngman was a gas. Rodney Dangerfield stole his shtick from Henny.

It is far easier for an American to take a hunting weapon to Canada than it is for a Canadian to bring a hunting weapon into the USA. I get a little tired of the criticism of Canada on this issue by Americans who have no clue that their own country’s temporary import process is so much more draconian.

Agree with this. For all we appreciate about the ease of getting guns in America it is not easy at all to bring one in as a foreign hunter. Much harder than many other countries.

I can give you 2 countries that will allow handguns: RSA and Zimbabwe.

yes the private security company that charges $30,000 a day for base services is going to tell you it’s very dangerous.

“Most of them dual citizens”

So Mexican citizens.

As a business man why do you think companies pay for these private security companies? Their insurance company won't cover them unless they pay for private security, It's a dangerous country and anyone can be targeted or just caught up in wrong place wrong time. It's just not covered in the news because it's so common.

No no no to old Mexico. I know guys that hunt there still but I don’t want that risk.

Respectfully, you're wasting your time and breath with this young man...he knows best

The last thing cartels want to do is hold Americans ransom…
@dchum - what a ridiculous statement and obviously you will Not be able to substantiate that with any facts. Whether by Cartels or other outlaws/bandits —-Americans have and continue to be kidnapped for ransom - it continues to be a tried and true revenue generator for bandits and especially near border towns. Americans are known to have “money” and kidnapping is therefore profitable. Mexico Police will “advise” you to pay the ransom because it commonly leads to successful return of the kidnap victim. Go hunt Mexico or don’t Hunt Mexico but do Not go unaware.
