As a brown bear guide who guides not far from where this video was taken, I only allow first shots under 200 yards. There’s no reason to shoot farther. It’s too risky on a DG animal.
Bears don’t have particularly good eyesight. If you have the wind and know anything about stalking, you can get under 200 yards most of the time. Heck, I’ve guided successful bow hunters on springtime spot/stalk hunts! The shot yardages on the three hunters I guided in Spring 2022 were 125 yards, 30 yards and 50 yards. The AK Peninsula is open for spring hunts every other year. I’m looking forward to May 2024!
