You want to buy something special, you want to treat yourself, what rifle do you buy?

My left hand 450 Dakota 76 was that special rifle for me. Such a great value IMO.

If I were to have another custom rifle built, it would be very similar to this rifle in 7MM REM MAG.

For me it’s either a Pre-War British Double Rifle; Rigby Rising Bite, Holland Royal, Westley Richards, etc in one of the big bore calibers

OR

A 1st Gen Colt SAA in 44-40

After one of those 2 are achieved, you could probably add a medium bore in one of the proprietary British calibers like a 318 Westley Richards, 350 Rigby, 333 Jeffrey, etc

I don't really need anything but, I would love a beautiful .22 lr. Bespoke perhaps! Anyone have such a lovely they could post? I need a proper drool!

Since this question didn't state that it had to be based in any form of my financial ability.

#1 choice: Westley Richards Bespoke Double in 500NE.
#2 choice: Rigby bespoke bolt gun in 416 rigby
#3 choice: Matched pair of Boss bespoke 12 bore shotguns.

What would your “special occasion” rifle purchase be?

I don’t mean mean unlimited budget but something that would be realistically within your means
I will likely be putting in an order for a Rigby Big Game in .375 H&H at SCI. I do like the thought of a Mauser 98 Diplomat in 7x57.

I always thought this Connecticut 21 was a good looking 22 LR. I’m not sure how practical a double-barreled rimfire is but it’s still nice visually.

I already have a Rigby double in .500 NE with a set of .450-400 NE barrels arriving soon. So, a numbered pair of Purdey SxS shotguns would be next.
Not sure if you’ve ever been, but next time you’re in Houston you should checkout Gordy & Son’s. Not sure about a matched pair of Purdey’s, but I know they have several singles, and multi gauge options from Purdey. They had a Pre-War Purdey Double Rifle for sale a couple months ago, but it had been rechambered at some point. I also know they had a pair of Stephen Grant SxS’s for the price of the avg house.

If you’re shopping, PM me and I can put you in contact with the manager to discuss what you’re looking for.

I like the layaway options, only wish it were in 416 Rigby.

How do you find the recoil on your 450 to all the other big thumpers? Noticeably less than a 500 Jeffery?
On̈ly really big bores i have fired is 505 Gibbs. It is tolarable , comparing it to 338-378 wby. Anything over 2400 ft/sec gets harder and harder to shoot 20 rounds of the bench. I have not shot my 450 Rigby or 416 so far because I am still recuperating from Vascular Brain surgery's and c4,5,6 fusion of my spine.. I am not recoil shy. I learn to deal with it. Of course some might get beyond my capacity. We will see.

A Karl Hauptmann triple express rifle in 470 NE or 9,3x74. I saw once one in 8x57J in a driven hunt in France, absolutely incredible. I never dare yet to inquiry further, as I could probably not resit and prefers to spend money on safaris rather than new rifles. Can't do both.

You have a special anniversary, a significant accomplishment or milestone hunt coming up; which rifle do you buy?

I’m currently leaning towards a quality, semi bespoke CRF magazine rifle for this goal.

A Mauser M98 Magnum Diplomat in 416 Rigby is what comes to mind.

Classic Mauser name and legendary CRF action, full length magnum cartridge, 4+1 capacity, nitrided finish, no frills utilitarian prestige vs some of its British counterparts, single square bridge with express sights, attainable price point…

What about you?

Just hit a major life milestone: total debt eradication.

To celebrate, I bought a Heym in 470NE and 375HH from a member.

Hi Jay,

Hope you're well.

I'm headed your way in January.

Attending SHOT Show has been a long time bucket list item for me.

Finally made it happen and I'm headed to Vegas.

I know you're some distance from Vegas - but would be keen to catch up if it works out.

Have a good one.

Mark
