Your Favorite Rifle Actions

Had to think about it a little. I've owned and shot so many types.

1) late New Haven Winchester CRF M70
2) original 54 cal US M 1841 rifle with fast 48" twist bore for conical Minie'
3) original 58 cal US M 1863/64 rifle musket for conical Minie'

Major Khan, to clarify the models. Of course everyone knows the Win M 70. However maybe not the M 1841 and M 1863. These are both originals. I shoot both with appropriate BP loads.

While they are different, from slightly different eras, I would call both "action" types-- percussion musket.

Favorite at the moment is the M98 on my 375 H&H Musgrave any reputable action wil do its moslty the driver of the rifle thats more at fault than the actions and rifles.

First preference is Dakota 76. Really impressed with my 416 Rigby so far.

I haven’t had a chance to use it more than once on game, but I am partial to my Legendary Arms M704. It has a unique controlled round feed that I like so far.

Third choice is Winchester model 70 with CRF. Been using one for quite some time and has been my go to for years.

Yes, I think the terminology for design type is interchangeable. However, I do notice that in the government, military and contract records for the production of these, that caplock is rarely used. Percussion lock, percussion rifle and percussion rifle musket are by far the most commonly used terms. The two I specifically chose as favorites for this survey are military muzzleloaders from the mid-1800s that fall into the general category of "rifle musket"- one the 54 cal M 1841 and the other the 58 cal M 1863.

Speaking as a hunter and client hunter...

Blaser R8 straight pull bolt action...hunt anything on the planet.
Krieghoff Big 5 or Blaser S2 break action side by side double rifle...specifically for African DG.
Blaser K95 break action single shot...lightweight hunting/camping/hiking.

BTW fellas, the 1917 Enfield is not a P, but an M1917. The P is only used with the P14 .303 Brit.

As a left-handed shooter my options have been limited. Based on my experiences with left-handed rifles I would say (in no particular order):
Ruger M77 Hawkeye
Winchester M70 Classic
CZ 550 Safari Magnum

I'm a righty but I agree with your choices. I'd put the CZ550 as my first choice with the Ruger a very close second. The Winchester is third but not a distant third. All three are extremely solid platforms.

Since it's limited to rifles the top three are:
Pre-War Model 70
Oberndorf Mauser 98GEW
Remington Model 725 (actually an upgraded Model 30S, which was a civilianized Model 1917.

If you added shotguns it would be:
Model 21
Parker DHE
Browning Superposed.

It may be observed that all the centerfire rifles are bolt actions and the shotguns are break actions.

interestingly the british gun trade made a lot of high grade rifles on the p14/m17 action, albeit much modernized and unrecogniseable.

Roughly judging by other members answers, I came to controversial conclusion.
90% of hunters here have in favor CRF action of this or that maker. basicallu some type of m98 action.
On the other hand, my impression is that more and more brands are turning to PF action.

In any case, we shall see the research conclusion by OP.

Sako bolt action

Sako has made many different bolt actions over the years.
They control the round more firmly than push feeds - but they are not "true CRF" in the Mauser sense either. And they have an accuracy guarantee.

I agree.
Moreover, I think that Sako, with Tikka have been the first to offer 1 moa guaranty. Having both, I do not disagree.

Now, there are other competitors, offering this same guarantee.
