ZAMBIA: SOUTH AFRICA: My Hunt With Takeri Reserve, Diekie Mueller Safaris & Coenraad Vermaak Safaris

Congrats Bruce, that was a great trip, interesting places, and nice trophies !

Congrats on the last leg of the hunt, some stunning pictures! I really enjoyed hunting steenbok this year. That is one pretty red hartebeest.

Thanks Enysse. The Steenbok were a lot of fun. LOTs of them on CV. Saw 20-30 per day. Nce to see that many of them around. I feel very fortunate on the RHB. Very fine animal... Sitting in Denver. Flight cancelled. Tomorrow to get home. Grrrrr. Been traveling about 40 hrs to this point. At least I'll have a bed tonight... Bruce

Hi Bruce, i left you a voicemail and sent a text while you were still in SA, not sure if you received it. i just missed talking to you. called the driver and he had just dropped you at Kimberley. wanted to say thanks for joining us and really appreciate the fact that you hunted with us. Enjoyed your reports, you're thorough. Glad you enjoyed your time in the Kalahari. regards Hans

Great hunt Bruce!

I would love to hunt in a premier area of that size where there are big five roaming wild and the sheer wildness of it all!! That hunt was a bargain for what you paid! Even my Namibia hunt had a different flavor and it was only 109,000 acres.

Wow...what an epic adventure!!! Puku, 2 Bushbuck, Blue Duiker, Sable, 2 Porcupines, Roan, 2 Warthog, Steenbok, Gemsbok, Springbok, Blue Wildebeest and Red Hartebeest. Definitely a trip of a lifetime. Congrats on some incredible trophies! Sorry about the Eland, it happened to me with a hartebeest as well.

Thanks for posting this detailed report and uploading all the pics. Really fuels the fire to go back!

@gillettehunter , bruce just thought i would put a couple photos on so you can see the difference from when you were there to what it looked like 7 days after first rains with approx 100 mills in that period.

river road after dam that was black and burnt

your termite mounds :D

and part of the road out that i said gets interesting and is mostly under water, and this is only after about 150 mills over a few days. this is nice and easy..... get that or over in a couple days and its no go as its totally under water with it up to the tops of the road edges and water running out off the bush into it, mud glorious mud :D

hi bruce @gillettehunter . bit of a difference in river level in front of tents from when you were here .in the feb photo you can just see the water behind the trees (lighter bits) on what is the river bank in the dry season. the water behind the far bank is about same as width of the main river. the peninsula is under water with some hippo in residence during the rains, and the dam overflows are running with lots of water. so real nice and wet

Looks like the rains have come to Zambia!

yup started for us properly mid nov, but bit down on usual average...only just under 900ml so far. its pissing down right now :D @PeteG told me kafue lodge up river from us is flooded which i dont think has happened for quite a few years now, and @Arturo Cuturi is finding it a bit wet i believe in their area ! the river will come up more . must confess i am surprised the internet is still working with this rain! cheers mike

The river looks pretty full to me. Lots of green stuff for the animals to eat. Looks like another good year is in store for Takeri. Is the road in passable? Pretty rough in places. Good luck. Bruce

bruce the road wasnt that bad when i came in last friday....it just takes approx an hour longer on the dirt part than when you came in when it was dry , so about 2.5 hours at the moment.heading to lusaka in the morning with vehicle part to get fixed, so will see what its like after the rain of last 5 days

That is a LOT of water Spike! Normal for Takeri at this time of year? How much of the of your property is underwater? Are the fishing villages on the other side flooded out too? Lot different from when I was there end of Oct. Bruce

That is bloody amazing.

hi bruce the peninsula is mostly under, and all the river bank areas up to the tree line as well. the only road that is sort of usable is the one on the fence line that you only saw up to the range . further along it a dambo crosses it and thats bad part. brought some spares in yesterday for patsys boat engine so hopefully we will go out on it. she was out on sun but it wasnt running well, but went upriver where there are swamps and she said its all totally under water and looks amazing just one big expanse of water, so will try and get some photos. we are on about average rain for year, but if no more heavy rains will probably end up a bit lower than average. there has been plenty way up river though to make it like this. it can drop quite quickly but has been like this for a while now, so yeah plenty rain up river. she said no fishermen to be seen, but are probably on the edges of the flooded swamp. the river is running fast so would be interesting trying to get around in one of their canoes.....:D

Do you have any cull hunts available? 7 days, daily rate plus per animal price?
