I will message you the link. I’ve posted a hunt report on here before with my YouTube channel link and the post was removed by admin I’m assuming due to the link. Enjoy the video and please subscribe so you’re sure to catch part 2 where the elephant, hippo and hyena hunts are concluded. Thanks!

I just posted the part 2 video, the hippo hunt, on my YouTube channel. I decided to break the videos up into individual animal hunts. Part 3 will be the elephant and 4 will be the hyena and Victoria Falls. Please go to MWH Adventures and watch these videos of this great safari!

The elephant hunt episode is now posted on my YouTube channel MWH Adventures. Please like and subscribe as there are more exciting videos coming including a rhino dart hunt and spotted & brown hyena. Thanks!

Thank you for sharing your hunt with us. I have never been in that area so your descriptions really help me envision the area.

Thanks for watching! You were one of the references that helped me in deciding to go with them so I owe you a big thanks for that as well!

I wound up getting a shot on a mature heavy tusked bull with my .458 Win Mag (500gr Hornady DGS) but unfortunately hit him solid on the shoulder and not behind. He tore out and we began tracking.

As someone who has never hunted Elephant, is a side on solder shot not reccomended with solids? I've always heard that with African game you are placing the shot on the shoulder vs behind due to the placement of the vitals.

I'm guessing this is different in regards to body shots on elephants due to the sheer size?

Yes sir you are correct in placing shots directly on the shoulder of practically all African game…except elephants. Even with a solid out of a very large bore rifle if you hit any large bones like the scapula/leg bone it stops all the penetration necessary for these giants. My bull was with a group feeding in very thick brush so when he was walking and came into an opening slightly quartering towards me I took my shot. Unfortunately, it was just a little too far forward and when we skinned him we found the bullet basically right there with the scapula. It had made it through, but just barely so it did not get into the lungs as needed. But yes, on all plains game put it right on the point of it’s shoulder and let ‘em have it!

sorry for any delays in getting back to anyone
please if you emailed me or Lon for a hunt opportunity, please do so again on my email tokoloshesafaris@gmail.com and or my whatsapp +263778730750 i have had so much condolence messages and have seemed to have got overwhelmed with all the emails.
i do apologize for being unprofessional

I shot my elephant right behind the shoulder into the lung/heart with CEB solids and got great penetration no problem. The problem becomes that elephant is going to run at least mine did as if he was not hit. I literally placed two shots from my DR almost touching perfectly in this area. Lou Hallamore my PH told me this was going to happen which is why he likes side or front brain shots given they drop right there. My elephant however turned and came down the same trail I was on and I finished him with a front brain shot. So yes, solids work on elephants behind the shoulder just do not expect them to drop right there...they can run a considerable distance with a heart/lung shot at least that was my personal experience when I shot mine this past April.

Mark i have just watched all your videos they are fantastic great job
I loved part 3 where it shows what happens to the elephant
Just loved every minute

Thank you very much! I won’t act like I wasn’t stressed and frustrated with myself but, the best and only thing I could do for the elephant, hunt team, and myself was to be positive and hunt as hard as I could. We kept putting in the work and the Lord blessed us with that chance we needed. Thanks for subscribing, I’ve got some more great videos coming!

Chopped up the whole thing as I kept hitting the 240 character limit...
Found out the trigger word in the end... It was muzzle or velocity. dropped them and it posted.:)

2,822fps, ES 8.2
This compares favorably to 7 Rem Mag. with less powder & recoil.

*PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS IS FOR MY RIFLE, ALWAYS APPROACH A NEW LOAD CAUTIOUSLY!!*
Rifle is a Pierce long action, 32" 1:8.5 twist Swan{Au} barrel
{You will want a 1:8.5 to run the heavies but can get away with a 1:9}
Peterson .280AI brass, CCI 200 primers, 56.5gr of 4831SC, 184gr Berger Hybrid.

I know that this thread is more than a year old but as a new member I thought I would pass along my .280AI loading.
I am shooting F Open long range rather than hunting but here is what is working for me and I have managed a 198.14 at 800 meters.
That is for 20 shots. The 14 are X's which is a 5" circle.
