Hello, my name is Nathan Askew and I am the owner of Bullet Safaris as well as a licensed professional hunter. My reply is a little late but it is important to me to set the record straight and to have accurate information on the internet about my company.

The comment made by Mike that 'Bullet Safaris is a booking agent' is not correct and actually very far from the truth. I am a licensed PH and personally conduct many of my companies safaris every year. In addition I have multiple licensed PH's that work for me; they are also are very capable and excellent professional hunters. I am very involved in every safari and have many years of dangerous game experience and operating in multiple countries in Africa. We offer as good of a hunt as anyone on the continent and our knowledge, passion for the sport and personal service is unmatched.

Other than that the information contributed in this thread seems to be good advise to any client. To my knowledge the other companies mentioned are also top notch safari operators.

In the end I recommend that a client understand that it is most important to know who your PH is and his capabilities - he is the one in control of your safari when you are on the ground and will make the most difference at the end of the day. Good PH's seldom work for average companies. Make sure you know enough about your PH as possible and be confident in his ability to guide you, his work ethic, that you will enjoy hunting with him, and you will enjoy his company around the campfire. After all a safari is not just a hunt in an area with a company - it is truly a trip of a lifetime and a good PH will make the most of your experience in Africa.

Wow, this is from a year ago and I had to stop and think about it for a moment. The original question was about a leopard and elephant hunt. While it did not specifically mention Zimbabwe I assumed it was the country the original poster was considering. For the most part Tanzania and Botswana have priced their selves out of the market, no ivory import in to the US from Moz, very limited ivory import from Zambia. With Chifuti being mentioned, it is a licensed Zimbabwe company.

To hunt Zimbabwe you must be a Zimbabwe licensed PH. That I know of Bullet Safaris is not a licensed operator in Zimbabwe with its own concession and quota. In my view of the world if you are sending clients to Zim you are working with a licensed Zim PH and licensed Zim company. I have always consistently stated if you hunt in Zimbabwe booked with a Zimbabwe outfitter, if not, you are using a booking agent.

If I have somehow overlooked your Zim license and concession my sincerest apologies.

Welcome Nathan good to find you on here especially after an Epic dinner in Reno.... I understand where you are coming from, there are professional hunters in every African country I know that you are fully aware of the fact that when hunting Zim you need a licensed Zim Professional I have also in the past received offers from Zim (reputable) outfitters to bring my clients over, and I am fully aware of the fact that Zim outfitters release quota to non Zim outfitters.

As you I also have a problem with suddenly being named a booking agent instead of a fully operational Professional when venturing into Zim, after all they are NOT the only professional hunters on the continent, I believe professional courtesy can go a long way, and personally do not see anything wrong with following regulation, I for one as you have been very fortunate in this aspect as we have been involved with our clients safari in Zim this can be contributed to the professional courtesy granted to us by Zim ph's. Whilst still following regulation and Law.

The origin of this is clear for all to see due to some rotten apples operating under false pretenses (illegally) which has damaged all of our reputations almost irreparably, as always I always say that everyone can not be tarred with the same brush.

One fact remains there is a right and a wrong way to do things, you are a professional in every sense of the word, as is Martin Pieters, and many other well respected individuals no matter where you might take your clients.... Just my opinion, if you have a client wanting to go to Zim, Tanzania, Mozie or SA if you have the resources and the know how.... Why not.

Hello Everyone,

So, interesting enough we went with Lew Harris Safaris on a hunt in South Africa in early July 2018. I am here to tell you that Morgan Harris is a great PH. We stayed in a camp near Bray, South Afirca. The people in camp were amazing. Dougie and his wife Anna made the stay very comfortable and enjoyable. We hunted Lions, Zebra, Springbok, Caracal and Tsessebe. We had a great time with no issues. I promise you will not find a nicer, friendlier PH than Morgan. He is down to earth and very knowledgeable about the animals being hunted. This is also a real hunt, not a "canned" hunt. If these animals are not wild, I don't not the definition of wild. We have had the opportunity to hunt in Namibia, Mozambique, South Africa, England, Canada and all over the US. So, I feel comfortable in saying these are wild animals.

Is there a particular country you are interested in hunting? What is your expectation on the weight of the ivory?

Keep in mind Luxury Hunts and Bullet Safaris are booking agents. I would ask very specific information about what outfitter they are using in Africa before making my decision. If they will not commit to an outfitter, PH, and the exact area, go elsewhere.

I do not know Lew Harris, however he is a South African operating in Gwai (Zimbabwe). If you are a US citizen I would check the legalities of importing the trophies from Gwaii as it is stolen property. In the hunting community there is much disdain for any operator hunting in the Gwai area. Definitely proceed with caution if hunting in the Gwai.

I would second the caution on the Gwai district. My first hunt was there with Lion's Den and Thys DeFries Their entire family holdings (over a century) were stolen in 20 minutes.
I can recommend Jamy Traut Safaris in Namibia for your DG hunt. He is a true professional and knows his DG. and Namibia is a great place to hunt as you know. I'm returning there in April for a second time with Jamy. Do yourself a favor and check him out.

I have seen lots of pictures of the elephant Thys clients have taken in Tsholotsho South, wow, some nice ivory.

I am looking at an Elephant and Leopard hunt combination. I have it narrowed down pretty well. Has anyone ever used Lew Harris Safaris, Chifuti Safaris, Luxury Hunts, Red Ivory Safaris, or Bullet Safaris?? If so, which one and how was your experience??

Ask for a copy of a valid Zimbabwe CONSUMPTIVE Tourism license and a copy of both sides of the zimbabwe Professional Hunters license, the PH who will be hunting you or responsible for your hunt. Many unethical & illegal hunts have and continue to take place. Every USA hunter should be very familiar with the "Lacey act"!

Thanks for the information. I am looking for something in the 35-50 lb range. I am aware that Luxury hunts with Jeff Martinell is a booking agent, but I didn't know that with Bullet Safari's.

Can you explain a little more about the law and stolen property from Zimbabwe. Every outfitter I have talked with about Elephant and Leopard have recommended Zimbabwe, saying we would see more animals there and be able to keep the prices somewhat affordable.

They also have importable prices, versus not importable?? The information they are giving me is that with the CITES permit for both Leopard and Elephant I can import both??

I have talked to outfitters from Zim, SA, Botswana, Caprivi Strip, and Mozabique.

True but bare in mind USFW is only giving export permits on a case by case basis. Some folks I hear are waiting months without an export permit yet. I’m looking at Leopard agin for next year.
