ZIMBABWE: Once Upon A Time With Mapassa Safaris

Thank you! I'm hunting the Eastern Cape next year, and the ammo has to fly separately and not inside my checking luggage. I'm looking at taking 2 bxs of 20 rounds of 416 Rigby, and 2 boxes of 20 rounds of 300 H&H. I believe SA only allows 80 total rounds per traveler. I need to double check on that. Thanks again!

You can confirm with Henry of rifle permits but I doubt that you are limited to rounds I think weight is more the issue. Sport shooters bring their own ammo when competing.

Agree with @Frederik , @PARA45 book the VIP service with Henry’s and enjoy being picked up at the airplane door, go through the passport check in VIP lane and have no real questions asked when doing the SAPS weapons and munition check. You’ll likely not even need to show a serial number! For the money it is a great piece of mind.

I’ve only had my rounds counted in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe. Only upon entry too.

I did use the Africa Sky services the last time I was in SA, and planning on using them again this year. Thank you gents!

Vertigo - I thoroughly enjoyed your detailed hunting report. Your writing style was quite good. You captured the feel of hunting in Africa as it should be. Well done Sir. I just completed my first African hunt last year and am well and truly addicted. I literally think about Africa every single day. Am planning a return later this year for some DG/PG action. Thank you for putting in the time and effort to share your hunt with all of us. If you captured any photos of Hanging George in the tree as an Ad Hoc Cat bait, I would love to see them. The pictures in my mind's eye are hilarious.

@VertigoBE wow what a great safari! I have been guiding a lot and finally took the time to read it all. Thanks for sharing your trip with us!

Trying to be a bridge between Eastern and Western schools of conservation.

Nugget here. A guide gave me the nickname as I looked similar to Nugent at the time. Hunting for over 50 years yet I am new to hunting in another country and its inherent game species. I plan to do archery. I have not yet ruled out the long iron as a tag-along for a stalk. I am still deciding on a short list of game. Not a marksman but better than average with powder and string.
