Somewhere here i ran across a picture of a young and attractive lady sitting on top of an elephant, elephant's tusks prominently displayed. A joke occurred to me, but it's only for the old and frugal people who dream of hunting so they check rates regularly. Young people may not get it.

Two old men are looking at the above-described picture.

"Reckon what the weight would be," asked Old Man 1.

"Probably a hundred pounds," replied Old Man 2.

"Those are 100-pound tusks," asked Old Man 1.

"No, sir. The woman," replied Old Man 2.

"I'm not interested in the woman. Women are too expensive," said Old Man 1.

Not the photo you described but certainly relevant to your point.

Both may be trophies, however, one is bought with a price, the other is bought with a committment....

The pair of tusks in the photograph very much appear to be the recognized world record tusks in the London Museum of Natural History, and the handwritten weights 214 & 226 lbs match the WR tusk weights. One has to wonder did the museum really avail the tusks for Peter Beard's photo session?, or is this a fabricated montage? . . .

In the interest of learning more about ivory, can we tell by photos which tusk would be left or right?

Are elephants hands left or right handed? I would think one is larger due to being used less, or would it grow more if used more?

The one they use the most would be smallest. So, if an elephant were right “handed,” the right tusk would be smaller. I’ve got the book mentioned in the second photograph. After dinner, I will see if there’s any more information regarding these photographs.

Elui With World Record Cow Elephant Tusk, 1962

He documented, observed... Whatever the right word is, the death of 30 000 elephants for his book End of the Game

He was married to Cheryl Tiegs, and had many other female admirers, and wives.

The top photo is odd.

Yes. The tusk on the left in the pic is the elephant's right tusk. And yes, elephant will often be right or left tusked. They will also often have a groove worn in the end of the tusk caused by using it as a tool and to strip bark, vines, etc.

This is how they looked in 2019 when I was in London.
