.458 Lott too much for North American Big game?

so ive been hunting small and medium size game for years, and would like to make the jump to some bigger game animals( Moose, Bear, Nilgai, Buffalo).....

now i have rifles in damn near every caliber up to .375HH.....and i am more than confident .375 will take any game i plan on hunting.....but would i be better served with a .458 (or other .4xx caliber)? or would that be "too much" for anything in N.A.?

right now im leaning towards a CZ550 in .458

thanks for the help
I have used a 45-70 and 444
Yea I know the 458l is a lot more but with most bullets it will probably leave a 45 cal hole would be my guess.
And before my arm was hurt I looked at buying a 458 win for deer and hogs

Sometimes I think heroine and hookers would have been a cheaper hobby than boomers and bullets but there is more longevity in the guns unless your wife finds out what we really pay for stuff!
No every time I show up with a new gun the wife pulls out the ruger or breattea catalog

Why would anyone risk a going into the forest with a cartridge that is too small???

It is foolhardy to risk having a widow, and especially small children, raised by a some random dude that is too dumb to know he doesn't need a "stopping" rifle.

If memory serves, my wife bought me a .458 Win Mag for my first Christmas present after we were married in 1991.

It was a push-feed Winchester Model 70, but at least her heart was in the right place!

Morning Rob, Any feeling for how the 300 H&H shoots? How's the barrel condition?
