Allure of the Ruger No1

Awesome!! I haven’t done a bedding on a No1. A friend bought a bargain once when he found one locked up at a pawn shop. The fore end screw was missing but wood was tight!! It shot decent but we did replace wood and cleaned up compound. After a new forearm and a tensioner it was a good bit better. It’s in other hands now but it was a learning experience!

Another huge improvement for a No 1 is the trigger. The Jard trigger is a game changer.

As a proud owner of a #1 RSI I am only confounded by one thing, and that is the alignment of the stock with the scope. I think the rifle is designed around using open sights, which I’m a fan of, but the scopes have too many advantages to reject using them.

So I have a scope on my RSI but when I shoulder the gun, I see nothing but black because my eye is too low. This is the first #1 I have seen with any sort of check/comb riser. I was just looking for a decent one, does anyone have suggestions? @swashington? I also shoot left-handed and have no desire for a riser to hold extra cartridges. Possibly, I’m too picky!

I believe that galco makes a nice leather one. I’ve got one in a drawer somewhere. I’ll check and see if it’s a galco.

There’s a couple of things that possibly would help with this issue. A number of manufacturers show cheek pieces online. Several custom manufacturers on Pinterest. Galco, Triple K, Mason are available without shell loops. I would also be sure that my scope rings provide the proper eye relief. I have some No 1s with 1 offset, 2 offset, and a couple without depending on optic manufacturers. The midway cheek pad is an economical way to start figuring out needs. I have sold several Bear Creek neoprene riser sets at the store but my issue is if caught in a wet weather situation they can be a challenge with a nice wood stock where others unlace or otherwise easily are removed, allowed to dry and remounted. Also some of the leather ones are amazingly well done and can complement a wonderful rifle!!

I saw you were looking for some Swift A-Frames for your 9.3. I just bought a bulk supply of them in the 285g. version. If Toby's are gone, I could let 100 go for $200 shipped you are interested.
Thanks,
Gary
