Bakkie hunting

Sounds like you hunted with a Lazy PH the first time...
Personally I hate horses, they do come in quite handy for Leopard bait though, especially if you consider that you are saving fuel by riding it to the bait tree... :) :) :) ;) ;)

My best always

I almost spit my coffee reading that one Jaco! :S Beat Dead Horse:

The Bakkie is a hunting aid, much like boots (vs bare feet), a scope (vs iron sights), a rifle (vs a spear or bow), a 300 mag (vs 30-30), etc, etc.

Everyone draws their own lines, and those lines tend to change as we age.

My first elk hunt was a backpack affair into the Frank Church Wilderness in Idaho. I would not have considered hunting on a ranch with a vehicle at that stage of my life.

The backpack hunt is a lot tougher now (last one was in 2010 or so) but the ranch hunt is much more appealing, especially considering my wife can actually come along.

30 years ago I figured everyone ought to hunt the way I did. I know better now!

Horses are like people Jaco, good ones and bad ones, they are absolutely necessary here in the mountains to get meat out and camps in. I've used my own horses and mules for close to 30 years and couldn't do with out them. I can't tell you how many times people have back packed way in and killed elk especially in early bow season and then had 240 pounds of boned out meat, cape and antlers, and their camp in extreme mountain terrain to deal with. Many times much meat is wasted. Would like to take you on a good horse back trip.

agree with you jaco about horses no steering wheel , brakes or accelerator pedals, and a thing that is supposed to be a brain but doesnt seem to engage in gear correctly!!! and lion bait so i hear :E Big Grin:

Spike.t it's this damn iPad! The o is right next to the I and stupid me hits send way too fast. I have however walked into the bush to take something other than a shot!

. . . I've walked into the bush and stalked to get a better shit or a shit period.

sorry @CAustin couldnt resist .......now was it a really good trophy shit you got?

I know this is waaaay off topic, but . . . . . what makes a 'Trophy Shit' different than any other trip to the bushes?

CAustin, you had to know you'd get hammered on that one! LOL

It's not the size of the shit but rather the consistency that determines the quality.

One needs to conserve one's shits! To enable better consistency

Now you're bringing tears to my eyes!

Exactly...

It is just like a buffalo. If it is big, but then you realize it is all soft, well....

I've hunted more than once with at the same PH who always had his best ideas after a quick (or, in some cases, not-so-quick) trip to the bushes. Who am I to argue with success?

The size of the dinner from the previous evening.

Listen as long as you can have a s@&t in the bushes or not in the bushes most people would agree that it's a good day!
I will try to edit my remarks before hitting that damn post reply.

I am just glad no one shits from the bakkie....OK beating that dead horse now aren't I :Woot:

You just can't make some people happy.

Personally I have no issue if you want to shit from the bakkie. Now if you want to than shit in the bakkie, we have a problem.

How did this get so far off track?!

Farting is even funnier!

Definitely hard to beat!!!! Unless it is the look on someone's face when they think they farted, only to realize they didn't. ... :A Banana Sad:

What a great way to kick off our 2025 hunting season in South Africa.

This beautiful Impala ram was taken at just over 300 yards, took a few steps and toppled over.

We are looking forward to the next week and a half of hunting with our first client of the year.

Do you have any more copies of African Dangerous Game Cartridges, Author: Pierre van der Walt ? I'm looking for one. Thanks for any information, John [redacted]
