Big Bore Addiction Group

Oh it's all fun and games until I'm scrounging cowboy action ranges for spent lead to melt into .458 bullets and running them low and slow to avoid leading. From Lott to "Decidedly Not." For a second there you thought I'd give up my rifle didn't you? My name is not Toby. No way! Dream on! Keeping it!

Good to see this thread is back from the dead!

Ive actually been behaving myself... mostly im just short on money. I still dream of a 577 NE and a 8 bore paradox but these dreams are getting more and more distant as financial obligations kick in.

I still shoot my 500 NE and my 416 RM every now and then to remind myself of the joys of large bore hunting rifles. Just this afternoon i was out with the 416 RM nearly destroying my steel swinger target with 300gr TSX's scooting along at 2700fps. We shot my friends swinging target and the impact sheered the bolts holding on the chains! If i sell all my guns... my Win M70 in 416 RM will go to the grave with me.

Everyone needs at least one in their stable, that will never be sold.

I think some here have dozens that fall into that category!

Hi everyone, my name is Grant, my big bore addiction started when I was 19, last week actually. I bought a brand new Winchester M70 Super Express in 458 Win Mag. Before it was even shipped I was wishing to convert it to 458 Lott. I dream of the .577 but for now the .458 will have to do for those tough Indiana whitetails.

Never say never.... been there but as I mentioned somewhere else it had to be sold....I remember saying if I could only keep one of my rifles that would be it.... but wasn't to be....

.458 WM ( Winchester Magnum ) built on a Winchester Enfield 1917 action by Flaigs ( Millvale , Pennsylvania) in 1973 . Douglas Premium barrel , French walnut stock .

Very effective on Royal Bengal tigers , Asiatic elephants , wild boars and ( among more mundane things ) Axis deer .

And when it goes it will have been dowloaded for some time.

The romance of the concept gives hope for immortality.

The sadness of reality creeps in. My .458 will be shooting WM brass and trail boss.

Up until recently the largest rifle i owned was chambered for 300 WSM. Never thought i would own anything bigger...
Decided I would go ahead and buy a big bore for my torture buffalo hunt. Couldn’t decide what I wanted; 404 or 416 Rigby. Both with so much history and truly classic calibers.

So what do you do when faced with these decisions, you buy both!!!

I'm rather new on this forum but been on several other BIG Bore forums for many years..
YES I admit it..I have the disease/addiction and its due to my childhood attraction to my dads 10ga Double and .458WM ! Since then it has gotten ever so much worse and many years later the list of Big Bores I have owned and hunted with is Scary! ...444 Marlin my First Centerfire as a Christmas Present at 13 years old to many many moons later up to a 4 Bore Double!
There is no cure so just learn to accept it!

Started with a 300 Win Mag, then went up to a CZ 550 in 375 H&H, then sold that and got a Ruger M77 Alaskan in 416 Ruger, then sold that and got a Winchester Model 70 in 416 Rem Mag, then sold that and got another Model 70 in 375 H&H, then sold that and got a CZ 550 in 416 Rigby, then sold that and got a Winchester Model 70 in 416 Rem Mag again, then I got a Ruger No. 1H Tropical in 458 Lott and will sell the M70 in 416 Rem shortly. I have a problem :giggle:

Your problem is selling rifles not owning them

That is kind of what I was alluding to in my post. I don't need more than one big bore, so if I find one I like more I sell the previous one. Because I am indecisive I end up buying/selling stuff too much.

haha I wouldn't be surprised. I have bought and sold so many guns I can't keep track. I'm very, very picky about quality, feel, etc when it comes to guns. I've bought a lot thinking I'd like it, I shoot it a bit, then sell it. I've slowed down quite a bit lately and am pretty happy with what I have left in my collection. I also try to shoot something before I buy it now so I know I'll like it and it won't be something I'll get, shoot, realize I don't care for it, then sell.

Hello everyone, new to the forum but this place is awesome. Started off with a 300 WinMag then went to 338 WinMag up to a 338 Lappula magnum. Currently at 375 H&H in a Remington 700 XCR. Definitely want to go bigger it is almost like a addiction.
My name is Bill and I think I have a problem ....

I’m not in horrible shape just yet... but the condition is definitely getting worse..

It all started with the .375 H&H about three years ago...

Then I found myself in desperate need to get into the +40 game... so I built a 416 Taylor...

And now I’ve added a .585 HE...

I am truly terrified at what comes next... 600 NE???

Help!

I managed to avoid the 600 NE...

but added a .458 SOCOM to the safe recently...

and I forgot about the .45-70 that was already in the safe when I made the last list..

the struggle is real.....

:)

Currently doing a load development on a .404 Jeffrey... it's always surprising to load .423 caliber bullets into a .404 caliber rifle. But we love it when we get 400 Gr North Fork SS bullets to 2300 FPS, those should hammer down on buffalo. Next up are the Cutting Edge solids and then Raptors... load 200 rounds of ammo for the customer and on to the next gun!
To much to political shit, to little Africa :-)
Spending a few years hunting out west then back to Africa!

Hello. If you haven't already sold this rifle then I will purchase. Please advise. Thank you.

I doubt you are interested in any trades but I was getting ready to list a Sauer 404 3 barrel set in the 10-12 price range if your interested. It has the 404J, 30-06 and 6.5 Creedmoor barrel. Only the 30-06 had been shot and it has 7 rounds through it as I was working on breaking the barrel in. It also has both the synthetic thumbhole stock and somewhere between grade 3-5 non thumbhole stock
