CLIENT: Jason Edens Client Beware

Yeah you generally wanna avoid using the SA police unless necessary. I'd rather see him just thrown on a plane home then sent to SA prison.

With the amount of drugs and booze he is doing he could overdose. I would definitely call the embassy and see what could be done to get him off my place.

A medical option to address the problem that is a few K's from OR Tambo:
Arwyp Medical Centre

Good luck Jaco.

(ps. Repeated quick succession attempts to access AH will cause you issues. SPAM guard!)

I'm guessing his tolerance level is quite high. Somebody has enabled him to get this bad. Some people are weak. I'm guessing $$$ (money) talked.

I have actually had a hunter like this .... on a DG hunt......Many years ago.

I was a very young PH and Outfitter , and tried to make things work on the 16 day hunt. I should have cancelled the hunt as soon as I realized what was going on.

Jaco , this is not the time to try your hand at playing Dr. Phill. Do not try to manage things . Confiscate his rifle/s and ammo , give him his money back - make him sign for it in front of a witness , and get him on the next plane out. I would inform the SA authorities about it also , just in case. This is serious.

Be safe.

Just finished walking through the entire thread. Jaco you are to be commended my friend. Situations like these present easy options to take - you have chosen to the road less traveled. You are leading like Jesus and addiction is a serious issue - addiction is not about a person, but a persons lack of control over behavior. No one agrees with bull.... you are having to endure, but thank you for seeing beyond the behavior and thinking of the person and the family behind the irrational craziness that is ongoing.

Lead like Jesus,

dt

Thank you for the words of encouragement guys, I have sat down with Jason as he seems to be a bit more coherent as we speak, I explained the road that we are finding ourselves on, and indicated that neither him nor myself wanted to be in this position.

Oba in my office is working on his tickets as we speak and Avo transfers will collect him on Kwalata, as I simply can not see my way forward.

I know sitting down and doing the bill will be an issue but I stand firmly behind the fact that it is not open for negotiation.
He will be charged for nights in camp and an Eland trophy fee.

I am carrying the transfer.

In retrospect I'm must be honest, that if I am ever confronted with such a situation in the future that I will show zero tolerance, this has been a massive emotional learning curve for myself and it would be a massive relief to get home to my family and put this behind me.

My very best always

Jaco, and the day we, as PH's, stop learning, is the day we should hang up our boots.
Good job on keeping control of the situation. It all boils down to experience.

Definition of a great PH...must be a mechanic, barman, weatherman, doctor, nurse, physcologist, master of general knowledge, family councilor, skinner, cook/chef, just to name a few.....oh if he can hunt and track thats an extra bonus. I think you catch my drift Jaco.

A High 5 on the handling of a very difficult and sensitive issue @Jaco Strauss Hats off, honestly.

One never stops learning and learned a lot from your post and the way you handled this situation.

All the best further -

Well done Sir!!!!! You handled the situation like a true professional!!! I for one do not have your patience.... I would probably have given the guy a few "KLAPPE" and if he wakes up told him that he fell off the hunting vehicle.... :sneaky:
Good luck Jaco!!!

To all out there,

In my opinion (and I know more about this issue than I wish I did), Jaco is right on his go forward approach. Tolerance ends up being enablement. Addicts MUST reach a bottom in order for recovery to begin. For some this may be one embarrassing moment, or a single arrest. For others homelessness, destitution, and loss of health isn't enough, and they die. Tough love is the only way to help. You can't reason with an addict in order to show them the "error of their ways." They are insane, literally, and don't know what they are doing, nor do they care while they are in the throws of the addiction.

This isn't about a person's will power, or morals. Addiction is a disease and must be treated as such. Just as you would treat a person with cancer or heart disease in a certain way so must you treat an addict. Have compassion, guide them to help IF they want it, but if they don't want help let them go down the drain. Only at their personal bottom will they seek help, or they will die.

100% spot on. It hurts but it is the only way to go.

Wow I know as a client if this was going on while I was in camp, I would be very concerned about the safety of everyone. You handled it very well.

You really showed a lot of patience, Jaco, too much in my opinion, but well you did try your best (y)

Glad you finally solved it.

Sad situation. If contracts don't contain a JA clause, going forward adding one would be wise...
