Discontinued Product Frustration

They have these at Midway right now. I think even on sale. Maybe somebody on here is headed your way and could bring some?
That would be fantastic!

Many newer bullets have come and gone over the years, but the good old PT is an emphatic killer.

Little off the beaten path but I dearly miss jonsered chainsaws I’m still working them in the woods but parts are getting harder and harder to find. The 600 series were tough as nails and bullet proof.

Had a Jonsred 49sp years ago. Bloody good saw.
Ate my ex father in law's Stihl for breakfast on cutting speed.

I’ve still got a 520sp running along with a 625 a couple 630s and a 670. Really looking for a 910 920 or 930 somthing to mill with.

Well, for one thing, that's BIG enough to work with.

Cutting speed is a funny thing. My uncle was running, of all things, a big Poulan of a certain #. He cut WAY MORE than my other uncle one morning..."Did you already have some cut on the ground?" No. "You cut all that this morning?" Yep, He got in the truck and went and bought the same model. He couldn't AFFORD not to.

Father before his health went could run a 630 at arms length horizontally with one hand and pitch brush with the other. That was doing silvaculture work before bushsaws were available around here.

I took a poulan on trade once on a small gun deal, last I see of it was smoking in a brush pile as the pile burnt. Couldn’t get it running if you did manage to get it going didn’t have enough hands to catch the parts as they vibrated off it.

COMPLETELY agree in most cases...however there was one big, good model that was a fast cutter. That's why I said "of all things, a Poulan"

I’m sure poulan had a decent model or two, the 41 and 51 huskies were both made by poulan and rebadged husqvarna and they seemed adequate. I’m a big jonsered fan and there’s models of jonsered I won’t touch.

I think you’d really like a husqvarna 372 or 390.

I haven’t grown up enough for the 300s yet Wyatt I still fix and sell a lot of the 200s. 254 257 262 266 ect. Got a 272 in the shop on the wall that’s had about half a litre of gas through it. That one will never be worked again that was the last one father bought new and swung in the woods.

Have you tried any off the new ones? I bought a 562xp and burnt it out the first winter I had it. Really disappointed in the new ones.

Never tried a 5 series, I have a buddy who cuts timber with a 576 and like it. He likes the 390 quite a bit.
My 372 has cut 40-50 loads of wood for 9 seasons now. It’s starting to get weak But they are very durable.
I’ve cut a lot of wood with a 266 as well.

Have you tried a compression test on it? Probably just needs rings and gaskets to spark it back up as long as the cylinder isn’t scored you’ve got a new saw again for 150$ or so.

I am turning into a product scavenger and seem to push the “buy it now” button as quickly as I can now.

I am getting to the point of just buying multiples whenever I like something (even when I don't need mutiples).

Many products that I buy are being discontinued and it is REALLY frustrating.

For example, over just the last four-five weeks I have discovered that all the following products are no longer available:

1. Kynoch Snap Caps (per Trader Keith)
2. Alliant Reloder powders (per Gun Stop)
3. S. W. Silver & Co. recoil pads (per Foxtrot)
4. Swarovski Z8i 1-8x24 30mm tube scopes with L4AIF reticle (per Swarovski rep).

Sadly, our slice of the hunting/shooting market must really be small and shrinking.

Made in America Filson? Gone.
Nearly all of Barbour coats (other than 3 heritage coats) are made in the third world, not the UK
Stanley Thermoses are made in third world
Try to find a US made drill press, milling machine, or wood working saw…most overseas now.
Try to buy a steak or burger that is 100% US raised beef
US made furniture? Hah.

I realize you’re stating specifically no longer made or discontinued items, I view third world made “replicas” to be the same thing as discontinued.

Honorable mentions in the gun world:

2.5” Shotgun shells and especially bismuth/non-toxic shells come and go from production all the time causing endless frustrations.

Swarovski has successfully discontinued every product I wish to own. Great job guys.

One uncle left, he is still cutting firewood for a living at 82. He is now a fan of Stihl. That rascal is still as tough as h@ll.
If I had only bought better/larger in my days cutting walnut blanks, I would have made more money. Instead I went cheap, even buying unclaimed chains at the sharpening places for pennies on the dollar. (nobody hiring sharpening done is cutting for a living IMO). I think they call what I did "squeezing a penny and letting slip a dime." But one of the tougher models I had was actually a Homelite.

Father always spoke highly of homelites he ran xl12s until Husquvarna 162s come around. Partner 5000s we’re popular around here for a time as well.
