Gun control

Pheroze quoted some interesting statistics.

My 16 year old cannot understand why the cop who shot the young theif in Ferguson, did not shoot him in the leg to stop him.... I've tried to explain how difficult that would be, and how the officer would have been trained to "stop the threat" and to aim center mass. So he wants to know why the police don't have more accurate weapons. I am trying to get him to the range to shoot one of my pistols from the bench with a rest and standing with a moving target. But he is resisting that in favor of his blind youthful opinions.

My younger brother made a comment "When I was 14 years old, dad was the dumbest man on the face of the Earth. By the time I turned 24, I was astounded by how much the old man had learned in a mear 10 years."

Bob

I feel pretty stupid about that. A couple comments refered (correctly) to ttigres115 as he and him, and I thought I was correcting that when in reality it was me who was wrong. I was stupdly making assumptions and in my head confused tigres115 with another member whom I know to be female and does make similar comments. it was an honest but stupid mistake.

I certainly meant no inference that a female opinion is inferior.

I to hope that tigres115 comes back to the discussion.

And I have to admit that I was wrong too. I too made an ASSUMPTION that turned out to be incorrent -- that the purpose of suggesting that he was a she was to discount the opinion.

Let's ALL go hunting somewhere .... soon!!!

I was refering to calling Tigris a female (as if a female was in some way inferior to a male). ActionBob apologized BEFORE I posted my comments (although it had not posted on my computer through the wonders of slow internet) and IdaRAM almost as quickly (see above).

thanks missed that part......

I'm a dude. Anyway, I'm sorry for the s*##storm I roused. I'm really ashamed of myself for causing so much chaos here and I REALLY don't wan't anything like this to happen ever again. I don't want you guys to be my enemies. And going off topic for a while, the tigris part of my name was taken from both the Tigris river and the scientific name for tiger (Panthera tigris).

All part of the learning process. Welcome back.

Tigris155. No need to apologise. Most hunting and shooting forums have a large representation of conservative right wing Americans who like all extremists, are more than enthusiastic in evangeliseing their own view of the world and how it should be run. Just remember that in a global perspective they are the minority. Their 19th century cultural values are under threat and they feel disenfranchised.

Hey tigris, glad you're here and hangin' with us. Some people might tell ya we can be a bit grumpy and have strong opinions at times, but you know that's just BS right ;) Far as I'm concerned we can be pals.
Maybe we should discuss something less controversial like religion or abortion or gay marriage  Just kidding! Let's not go there!
See ya around pal
Dan

I'm +1 with you Bluey / welcome back Tigris115.

However, my original response to Tigris115's post with his points numbered: 1, 2, 3 and 4, plus a couple more that he didn't number for some reason, stands quite firm - (located on Page 2 of this thread).

Everyone's favorite reincarnated Minute Man,
Velo Dog.

Hello Code4,

I do not consider myself an "extremist".
I consider myself a Free Man, meaning that I do not take lightly any efforts to trample my Civil Rights.
Neither do I give a rat's ass if anyone wants to follow my own view of the world or not.
Evangelizing anyone to my view does not interest me in the slightest.
Believe what you like, as long as you believe I should not be trampled upon.
Stating my point of view is for conversation sake, take it or leave it.
If the world is run one way or another, it matters not to me in the slightest, unless those within said world try to enslave me.
History proves many would love to do so.

My definition of Slavery includes being forced to pay unreasonably high taxes while those who over-tax me live like Kings and Queens in the lap of luxury, on my hard earned money.

Both my wife and myself have been called Alpha personalities.
Our closest friends are made of similar fiber as well.
Alpha types can be led by people we respect but, we will not be shoved around by anyone.
Said spouse and I have visited 4 continents and many individual countries.
Therefore we both fully understand that not just globally but, locally as well, we are totally outnumbered - in the minority for sure.

My cultural values pre-date the 19th century by many thousands of years and have always been under threat by Pharaoh, Herod, Caesar and other powerful bullies.
They are all too numerous to name here, from the early written word, up to and including these sad times of Horny Bill Clinton, domestic terrorist Bill Ayres' pal, Barry Obama and I know there will be others as well.

Type A's will always be dwarfed in numbers world wide, by type B, C and D personalities who, blindly do whatever their tyrannical Governments tell them to do.
Likewise they often stay busy creating more children than they can afford to feed (more taxes needed to feed all of them?)
Pretty sure such are the very same people who constantly waste their energy trying to dream up some way to improve the .375 H&H ... LOL.

Lead, follow or get out of the way,
Velo Dog.

Right there with you Velo Dog.
But wait just a damn minute!!! Gotta go make some popcorn :D

Popcorn made me all that I am today ... old, grumpy and fat.

Don´t worry, Tigris, of course we can be pals (y)

tigris if you dont ask you wont learn :) even if it causes a sh-t storm ;) people agree to dissagree on here rather than getting nasty, and if they do they tend to get slapped down a bit by the rest :D stand your corner and put your case into the ring, and if you maybe change your opinion fine, and if you dont then fine as well because everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but you will have to learn to fight your corner win or loose, and then get over it and move on to the next thread or post on this fine site (y):D

Popcorn?! who said popcorn? where's the popcorn!!! The worst thing about my one and only African hunt was the lack of any popcorn. Stopped at a store and got a big bag as soon as we got back to town! LOL... no, seriously.

tigres, welcome back! Pals, yes I hope so. Glad that is sorted out and lets move on.

And I would add that the one thing I could glean from tigres' original post and list... Is lets get some kind of national reciprocity of carry permits in the USA. I fully agree with Velo dog on his points, but I could give a little to have a national right to carry permit. If I had to take a class and pass a test similar to what I need to do to get my MN carry permit, proving I am competent to handle and shoot a hand gun... I could endorse a more extensive training and screening process to get that permit or license, and even to renew it.... But to let the government track my guns any more than they already do, and to be able to take them away... NO. They can take a drivers license away or not renew it but they cannot take the car.

P.S. Pretty sure cars kill way more people than guns do.

I presume any Gov't can take any car they want, if they so choose and can find it (and if they are met with weak to no resistance from the victims).
At the moment, they do not seem interested in seizing our vehicles.
Likely, they have figured out that automobiles are not our tools of choice if we ever decide to raise a fuss against them (like we did in 1776 and again in 1812).
Besides, they probably do not wish to get into the car business at the moment, as their plates seem to be full of political hot potatoes all the time (the Middle East, our own Cities sometimes in riot condition, etc.).

That "evangelical" thing is bothering me.

The liberals seem pretty damned evangelical about their agendas. I am not biased at all by color of people, but I sure as hell am biased towards their rhetoric and actions. Or should I say lies and propaganda..... This whole police shooting thing in MO is damned dangerous. We have a Democratic Governor coming out and saying he wants justice for the family of the dead teenager. I am fully behind getting "justice", but we first need to find the facts and figure out just what justice mean and to whom.

They have all sorts of Evangelicals down there stirring up trouble and have that cop convicted be the "believe" he is guilty.... If that is not "evangelical" I don't know what is.

And several other leaders who have that cop all convicted with out any trial or even indictment. This is unconstitutional thinking and coming from the damned governor, representatives, senators, etc.... At least last I heard, the President was calling for "calm" while it is sorted out. But if he really wanted to make a difference, he would tell these young punks to get off their asses and get to work rather than telling them all about how the government (or those of us working and paying taxes) "owes" them something and needs to solve their problems for them..... Obama missed his calling, he should run a daycare for bunch of babies.

That whole "pay their fair share" thing really pisses me off. I've been earning my own money since I was 9 years old, keeping financial records since 13. And 80 hour weeks have been a whole lot more common that 40, or 60 for that matter.... I think I have damn well "earned" what I have and it really gets my dander up to hear I "owe" it to someone sitting on their ass!

I heard of some older cops explaining to younger ones that when the shit hits the fan, just cool your jets, take your time getting there and let it settle down before you go charging in..... where does that leave the victims of crimes... Especially if they cannot defend themselves! Anyone see the video of that big kid just strong arming his way out of that store he robbed before he was shot..... And apparently the store owner did not even call the cops, I assume because he was scared of reprisals.

And when liberal evangelicals are trying people in the street with "mob rules", who can blame the cops for taking a cautious approach?

I saw you were looking for some Swift A-Frames for your 9.3. I just bought a bulk supply of them in the 285g. version. If Toby's are gone, I could let 100 go for $200 shipped you are interested.
Thanks,
Gary
