Have you completed the North American Super 10?

I would say Greenland was one of my best hunting trips I have ever been on. Definitely would recommend it.

AK caribou can be hit or miss.... more miss lately. If you have realistic expectations and not picky on what you shoot then it can still be ok.
Appreciate that feedback on Greenland and insight on Alaska. I tend to a “first mature representative animal is dying” type guy. After a couple successful trips I’ll start getting picky

I’m sure it’s been done before but it wouldn’t be legal. As a Saskatchewan resident I have to be drawn to hunt them as well. I last got drawn in 2008 and have been applying every year since with no luck.

You might want to check if Canadian non-residents can hunt pronghorn in Alberta. There’s lots of members on here from that province that would know for sure. Wyoming would probably be your best bet.

And there’s always the option of moving out here!!!
I try and convince the wife everyday to move to Alberta. She'll crack eventually.

i have 9 of the 10. Still need a mountain goat. I only apply in my home state for goat so will see if it ever happens. Applying this month AGAIN ha ha. I was not trying to get the 10 but I did see it was a thing a few years ago. It would be cool to complete:

Seams I need a pronghorn, maybe Wyoming in my future. Then the last hard one, musk ox or bison. After 35 years trying the BC draw without a sniff maybe this year will be different.

Sad that 4 in same category only counts as 1.

Same category animals count towards the Super Slam, how far are you into that?

I plan on having a few "duplicates" as well in my journey.

1. White Tail & Mule Deer

2. Black Bear and Brown Bear

3. Mountain Caribou and Barren Ground Caribou.

I'd love to hunt multiple sheep but I'm still trying to figure out how to afford the first one.

No chance at super slam completion, unless that $70 million comes my way in tomorrow nights lottery. Need a few different caribou, couple more sheep, more moose, the far east one, and the hard ones polar bear, musk ox, walrus. Lucky I lived in BC so long, did hunter host and accompanied hunts with Alberta buddies to get some big whitetails, then as a BC resident shot moose, all deer sub species, goats and predators annually for many years, hunting was good, now I am wrong color. I still do my annual 3 month, 3 camp area BC hunts, just tags are less now.

Africa took NA funds away, and will continue to as I LOVE safari.

I'm not sure what the benefit is of another hunting competition/marketing hype "opportunity" to strive for. Collectors will collect, I suppose. I'd rather not be influenced by someone else's marketing list. I do appreciate the wonderful opportunities we have in Western Canada for hunting a great variety of interesting, iconic game animals. Best wishes for all who appreciate that!

Get a guide and go hunting. No draw required. $$$

Canadians can enter the draw for a Trophy Antelope. By the time you get the draw you may be in the old age home. The government will appreciate all the fees you will have to pay while you wait.

I've done the "Tasty 8".
Bison, Moose, Elk, Mule Deer, Whitetail, Big Horn Sheep, Black Bear and Pronghorn.
Adding a Caribou would be nice. I know they are tasty.

I hear you. I’m on year 15 of not getting drawn here. I’m actually starting to run out of interest now that I’m 55!

I have 13 on the list and 1 away from the 10. I just need the cougar which I will do, when my timeline aligns.

"Tasty 8!" I like that Brickburn. So far my little list of local game and game from neighbouring provinces includes Whitetail and Mule deer, Pronghorn, Moose, Elk, Black bear, Mountain Caribou, Dall sheep. That's 8. I'd like to "collect" one or two more.
Probably the lowest quality meat but the highest desirability for me would be a big old Mountain goat. Tried three times, each time I was defeated by the mountain terrain. Almost killed twice. I'm probably too old now to hunt mountain goats, but one can dream.
Canadian Barren Land Caribou have gone from three or four million animals to a few hundred thousand in my lifetime. I'd still like to hunt one before the population completely crashes everywhere.

I completed the 10 a few years back and just entered it last year.

My Canada Moose earlier this month completed the Super Slam.

I have 9 of the 10. Just need a sheep. May be a while, as I probably will never pony up the $$$ for a sheep hunt. Hopefully I hit the lotto on one of the state draws. I have about a million points in Montana, and still no joy. I did manage to finally pull my Mt goat tag last year and filled it.

Funny you mention money. I read quite some time back that well know bowhunter spent about $600K on his super slam. Many of those hunts were in the 80s and 90s.

I wonder what it costs today...double, triple?

What could I do in Africa for $600K!

Buy a country.

I recently seen a British Columbian stone sheep add, 12 days, $40K for hunt and another $40K trophy fee. Man that hurts. How many safaris could that be, or one with a wild lion?

Hello Doug,
I am Philippe from France and plan to go hunting Caprivi in 2026, Oct.
I have read on AH you had some time in Vic Falls after hunting. May I ask you with whom you have planned / organized the Chobe NP tour and the different visits. (with my GF we will have 4 days and 3 nights there)
Thank in advance, I will appreciate your response.
Merci
Philippe

Hi Walden. Good morning from England, Chris here (The Englishman!) from Croatia. Firstly it was a pleasure to meet you and Michelle - a fellow Sanderson! I have finally joined AH as I enjoy it very much. Glad you enjoyed the hunt and your write up which I read on AR was very good indeed. I am sending on WhatsApp pics from Bojan of some of the animals hunted recently. Take care and best regards. CS.
