I understand what you are saying, but everybody to his own Gordon.. it was great hunt that didn't end up text book, that's life, I have moved on and will have no prob looking at him on the wall. Like you said we learn from our mistakes, that one I will try not to replicate in the future!!!

Some of the best. most memorable hunts are ones that went a stray in some form IMHO. I'm glad you enjoyed your hunt and have the mount as well. Don't let anyone try to take away from your adventure no matter how the "text book" said it should have played out...

Maybe he was happy the PH found and finished the job so the animal did not suffer anymore.
If he is happy and can get good memories from the hunt thats his call.Not every hunt ends the way we like it.
I have no idea gordon why you make some of the dumb comments you make on this thread.I am sure with all you have hunted you could offer help and wisdom but I have yet to see any on this thread.Some things are better not said.

Thxs guys, its an open forum and if somebody wants to make a statement, then go for it, like i said everybody to his own, i dont have to agree with it... It was a great hunt, i made a bad shot that i took ownership of (no excuses on my part) and the buff was recovered, i have no problem putting him on my wall and enjoying it. Life is full of regrets and in the grand scheme of things, this is not one of them!!

This is a free forum and I write exactly what I want as long its not directly hurt anyone, and following the moderators instructions. This is my reflection and I can say that most of my old clients will for sure pay the trophy fees if something going wrong, but if we find a half eaten warthog a week later its probably only folks like you that with proud will stick them on the wall and then tell the hunting chaps that it was a most dramatic and brave warthog hunt ...

I do not hunt with clients anymore so I don't have to smiling if I not want my friend, learn and respect and keep you mouth closed if there is nothing clever or interesting to add in this subject !

Oh I see gordon you can say what you want but I should not say anything.As for being a redneck I dont look at that as good or bad but not who I am.You seem to like to judge people though for some reason.
You have no idea about my skills as a hunter but I can say your real wrong there.Might want to check with a few people I have hunted with to get the right idea.Have already made sure my son will even be a better hunter then myself.Passing on what I know to him.
I am sure there is more then 1 reason why you dont have clients any more and I would bet not all by your choice by your comments made here.

The fact is that I decide to not combine business and hunting anymore because I get older and find it not exiting to hunt with people like your self that I do not know, it was a challenge ones when I start this profession 35 years ago, but not anymore, so do not think that you know me because I was culling buff in Angola when you was playing with dolls !!

Gee Wiz guys! As my younger sister would say.. Take a chill pill!

The communication seems to be narrowing down and becoming more accurate (for the worst) but both of you need to recognize that on an international board such as this, there will be little innuendos that get slightly mis-interpreted and then can blow up into more than they should be... especially if grumpy old men are involved.

Now as for the red neck thing... Gordon we are pretty darn proud of our red necks.. at least the more positive side of them. And speaking of interpretations " innuendo" in Red Neckeese" is used in a sentence such as "Hey Bill, did you see that bird just flew right innuendo........ for the rest of us that is "in your window" (stole that from Jeff Foxworthy, sorry Jeff)......

Gordon, we have Red Necks missing teeth because their idea of a good time involves a 20 foot long wood plank, a sawhorse, the woodshed roof and a motorcycle. (helmet optional, but if chosen cannot have the strap hooked, sunglasses are not optional)

Then there are the rednecks who can fix anything with a jackknife, pair of rusty pliers and a roll of duct tape.... And by anything I mean accidently amputated fingers and belly ruptures on a pig. If said redneck is older than 60 you must substitute the duct tape with baling wire. (duct tape was a major life changing technological advance for the entire American red neck culture).

Red neck Aunt Bertha's cooking might be so bad that the flies chip in to fix her screen door... But you can bet she never turned any one away hungry, no matter their creed or color.

And if your wife or daughter is stranded along the road someplace with a flat tire in the rain or in a snow storm, you can bet the first redneck to come along will stop to change it for her and send her safely on her way.....

Gordon, the Nyala was shot on a property in Limpopo, took us 2 days just to find him and another just to get a shot on him and funny thing it was the last day the last hr of my 1st safari, so to say I have pulled off a few last day animals, this one needed no follow up, as he dropped pretty well when I shot him. He is just about 31"!!!

Gary that's a fantastic trophy, if the photo was a bit darker I would think its a Bongo... I can see its over 30" and remember when Paul Phelan took that wonderful 32 7/8 inch Nyala in KwaZulu-Natal nearly 30 years ago (1 on RW) still today !! I will give it a try my self on the same area in September.

Nice skull preparation, I see sometimes the taxidermist in Zimbabwe are painting the skull with white color... not very nice, anyhow looks like its a 38" buff, with a 13" boss would score 91-95 sci points or something, tell me the score please...

Gordon, this is what the PH sent me a while ago, its 41" wide and bosses are 13" and he has long tips, he should score well, but no overall score..

Since I posted my initial question concerning hunting Cape Buffalo at night, I have received a number of messages and emails asking for updates on the buff I had wounded. So to provide those interested with an update: I have since been contacted by the landowner notifying me that he was finally able to take the wounded buff down. Its health failing. I requested photos of the buff once it was down and here are two of the three photos sent to me. I had asked that they please tell me where I wounded the buff, I did not receive a response to my question. And yes, I will receive the horns and cape.
