Hunting Leopard with hounds in Namibia - Namibia Professional Hunting Association (NAPHA) Special General Meeting to be held

The NAPHA Executive Committee hereby invites all NAPHA members to attend a SPECIAL GENERAL MEETING to be held on Tuesday, 18 October 2011 at 09h30 at Arebbusch Lodge. Registration as from 08:30.

On a request of a percentage of the NAPHA membership, a Special General Meeting has been called.

To discuss:
1. The re-instatement of the NAPHA Hound Committee;
2. Guidelines, Rules and Regulations for hunting leopard with hounds;
3. Negotiating with MET to allow the hunting of leopard with hounds.

I hope they open up leopard with hounds again. It is a different form of hunting but I think people should be able to pursue that option if they choose.

I guess having a choice of dogs or baiting depends on your perspective of hunting a certain animal. Dogs are used for cougars everywhere.

I want the excitement of shooting baits, setting them, checking for hits and setting up a blind and waiting. This I will do in 2012. If dogs are reinstated and I am not successful baiting leopard, then I may consider the use of dogs. This is generally 100% success. Does this hurt the quota, I don't know but it sure fills the quota sooner and more expensive.

i understand that it is a real nice hunt when done properly. it turned into a real sh?t show before and that is why it was cancelled. hopefully the outfitters will stay on the straight and narrow this time around if reinstated.

Hey Roger,
Even with the dogs you'll still have the enjoyment of shooting and hanging bait. Just not the blind building and the waiting in the blind. The baits are used to locate a big male. Once one has fed on the bait, the dogs are released on the spoor as long as it's fresh enough. Then the excitement really begins. While success with dogs is usually higher than hunting from the blind, it's still not 100%...... "Different strokes, for different folks".

The important part of that meeting will be coming up with some rules that will take into account the increased success rate with hounds and to keep that fact in mind when deciding on quotas overall and distribution of the hunting with hounds and solely from "bait".

Dear Members,

REPORT BACK FROM THE SPECIAL GENERAL MEETING HELD ON 19TH OCTOBER 2011 AT AREBBUSCH LODGE.

The meeting was scheduled to begin at 09H00. As there were not sufficient registered members, a quorum could not be established. The meeting was delayed according the NAPHA Constitution Point 9.3 and reconvened at 09h40 with the quorum in place.

It was disappointing to note that only 57 NAPHA members were present at a meeting deemed of utmost importance to not only the trophy hunting industry in Namibia but also to NAPHA as an association.

Not quite sure how to read this one.

It looks like they don't have interest in opening it to hound hunting, which I'm ok with as long as leopards are hunted with bait. And the game ranch owners aren't shooting them on site if they show up on their hunting area, because they don't have a legal permit, to get a foreign client to hunt it...so they can make some money, and aren't having there plains game killed for nothing.
