All those big brown bears!!! Can't wait to harvest mine with Marius. Who else jumped on this opportunity?

Congrats! I’m setting one up now with Marius for late April. When will you be heading out?

Why did the government only reopen bear hunting for 2024 and 2025? Thank you

I would say minimum 230 grains bullet. In any caliber you like. I don’t prefer magnum for brown bear, shooting distance is under 100m. I used from 300 win mag up to 458 Lott and my favourite so far is 9,3x62.

since the ban in 2016 , more than 20 people have been killed, and probably more than 200 have been wounded; the compensations for killed livestock exceeded 2mil$ /per year

What does that bear weigh?
As a taxidermy mount somewhere between 50-60kg including the base, as a live animal I can't have a correct guess as I get only the skins .... but Marius should be able give you a better estimation

@HUNTROMANIA - with only “3 hunting days” could you please provide a little more detail regarding Success Rate? ie: in the past TWO Seasons - How many of Your Hunters hunted Brown Bear for only 3 days? Of those Hunters - how many killed bear?
Thank you for this and any other information you can share….

I hunted bears with Marius last fall. You definitely want to get in on this hunt.

There are a lot of bears in Romania. You see a lot, its very exciting and different than anything else in bear hunting. The food and accommodations are great, and unlike Alaska (which I love), Romania is also warm, dry and I did not see any helicopter-sized mosquitos for a whole week.

It's really a good hunt. Marius is a top tier outfitter and passionate bear hunter.
@Cleathorn did you hunt Fall or Spring? Do you prefer one season over another?
There appeared to be corn cobs in one of the photos - is baiting allowed and effective? The hides look good and I like the chocolate color

We have a high density of brown bears in our best hunting areas. 3 days we consider to be enough for this hunt. Succes of the hunt depending on many factors, our experience and professional knowledge will determine to achieve that.
You see corn in some pictures because they are coming to eat on our wild boar feeding points.
There is no hunting season like before, bears can be hunted to reduce the number on the released quota from 01 of January to 31 of December.

@HUNTROMANIA: Thanks for the quick reply but you did Not answer any of my Specific questions:
1). How many Hunters have you had on “3 Day Bear Hunts” over the past Two years?
2). Of those Hunters on “3 day bear hunts” over the last 2 years - How many Killed Bear?
Now, if you are saying that there are No prior seasons or hunts that have taken place for Bear during the past two years — then I understand there is NO History? — is that accurate? This is really a “first of its kind” type of hunt ? But you are anticipating it will be a high success rate type of hunt - but as with any hunt there is no way to be sure.

Maybe I didn’t understood your questions…
Hunting season for me, means a period of time when is allowed to hunt a specific animal. Until 2016 brown bear was hunted in spring and fall hunting season. In 2024 and 2025 bear can be hunted all over the year.
I remember only 2 hunters who didn’t get the bear in the last 15 years. All my packages was based on 3 days of hunting. I had groups with 5-6 hunters for driven hunt and all of them got the bear. I hope those informations are useful for you.

Got it - thanks

That is a fantastic track record. Very fair firearm rental and quality equipment. Beautiful country, no killer mosquitoes and black flies. Do we need to bring a headlamp or knife for the hunt?

Thanks, Sharpshooter308. To be a bit clearer on my question, I don't understand why the bear hunting season was not extended beyond 2024 and 2025 given the problems in Romania with bears. I have a license for 2025, and am looking forward to my hunt.

I hunted in November. It was very good. I took a nice Chamois as well. In 3.5 days of hunting I personally saw 13 bears. We did a traditional driven hunt, and it was very interesting and fun. Think deer drive only with bears (and every other critter in Romania). It close encounter, active hunting.

There is a lot of agriculture in Romania, so the bears are well feed and healthy. Every bear I saw had a nice quality chocolate hide. There is corn everywhere.

We also hunted one late evening/night in a deer blind and saw a bear, and we sat 2 baited areas and saw bears. Baiting is very effective. I hunted in 2024 and they had not hunted bears for 8 years, but, they still bait for Wild Boar in some areas and the bears come to those areas and have for many years if not decades.

I can’t speak to the Spring season, as I have only hunted the fall. I chose the fall on Marius’ recommendation and to combine the hunt with Chamois. I’d just reach out and see what he says, and then do that.

Good luck!

Hello. I see you hunted with Sampie recently. If you don't mind me asking, where did you hunt with him? Zim or SA? And was it with a bow? What did you hunt?

I am possibly going to book with him soon.
