Politics

Not sure if there was an actual question there.
That said, if one cannot look at both sides and understand the opposition, no positive outcome is possible.
Putin doesn't want Nato encroachment. The US wouldn't want Russian, Chinese, or Iran encroachment in Mexico.

Can you imagine a Cuban missile crisis today? The Cheneys would be picking their chops however. This coming from a Bush/Cheney voter, albeit more informed 20 years later.
With all due respect my friend, I get tired of hearing Ukraine’s proximity to Russia being compared to Cuba’s proximity to the USA and the Cuban Missle Crisis. It’s apples and oranges. The nuclear and conventional arms in Europe are a DEFENSIVE measure against Russia and the previous USSR, not offensive. When the USSR put missiles in Cuba, that was an offensive move. In addition, as my late uncle could attest, Mexico allowed the USSR to put listening posts and other intelligence gathering equipment in Mexico along the USA border. The USA did not invade Mexico.

Delusional take..
I don't want to see a war over Taiwan either. There are two ways to stop one. Either a position of support, strength and ambiguity, or, turning your back and walking away.

At this point, given developments, do you really see Trump fighting China over Taiwan? I don't.

Let's check back in four years.

My grandfather was a US Marine POW in WWII for 3.5 years. Taken in the Phillipines and freedom after VJ.
He depised the Jananese....refused any in his family ro purchase a Japanese car, buy Japanese, and refused a trip by their government in the 90s.

I say this, because Japan is a great ally of the US now after countless horrific acts.

There is hope that relationships change and can be mended and alliances formed when the ones that did evil and let it control them no longer make the decisions. Some will take much longer.

We don't forget the past, rather learn and better ourselves from it.
Well said.

My family background is Dutch. My parents suffered as children under the German invasion and occupation. It affected their whole lives. The bombing of Rotterdam for one; accidental bombing by Americans and then surviving the Nijmegen battles for the other. I was always curious about how well they got on with German acquaintances in their adult lives. This contrasted distinctly with how Australian veterans of the war with Japan regarded folk from that country. Absolute hatred, mostly. Now we're allies.

Being ready to have good relations with Russia is a great idea. But not while Putin's there. Not now.

Zelensky is and always has been a puppet. He was put in place by European oligarchs and NGO's with the aid of American NGO's and corrupt American politicians. He was nearly taken out by The Azov, who are legit Nazis that committed horrible atrocities against people who traditionally identified as Russian in the Donbas. The Azov found a use for him, they wanted this mess.

Ukraine has been a hellhole for money laundering, human trafficking, black market weapons, computer hacking, licensing theft and all kinds other nasty and nefarious things for decades now.
Don't think for a second that our own corrupt politicians aren't ass deep involved in this mess, the ones with the biggest Ukraine flag pins and the ones screaming Viva Ukraine the loudest being the most guilty. My own Senior Senator being one of the worst.

Zelensky is soon to be a man without a home. His approval rating is lower than that of our own Congress or Corporate media.

His people and parliament are turning on him. Although a puppet, he is the face of several generations of Ukrainian men being wiped out. The passport bros are going to have one hell of a time in Kiev when this thing is over. He thought that France would be his place of safe exile but Trump shut that down with Macron earlier this week. He did himself no favors with the stunt he pulled at the Whitehouse. Or was he put up to it?

You guys that think this is some kind of fight for world freedom need to take a break from the Corporate media and do some research on the Maidan Coups, Victoria Nuland, the Donbas etc. Trump sees this for what it is, a giant scam! The Americans that are going to have to pay for this crap haven't been born yet and unfortunately generations of Ukrainians have been lost by prolonging a proxy war that was unwinnable from it's onset.
Thanks for this. It's exactly why I come to this thread, on this forum. Here, I meet with folk who are likeminded in at least one sense (hunting and shooting with a focus on quality and tradition), to gain an appreciation of how they are seeing important political events. This is my way of ensuring I'm exposed to a wide variety of news and views and to understand how others' views are shaped by the sources they seek out.

Field, here is my feedback for you. It looks like your sources of news are too narrow. That is the end of my feedback. And now you say, 'Thank you for your feedback.' This is the Harvard Business School method. It works really well; best if both parties are trained. :)

Putins' former invasions have all been paid for by increases in the price of oil globally, some of which we caused by our stupid policies under Biden and Obama. Yes, green policies caused oil production to curtail. Opening trade with Russia, opening sales of Russian oil, but maybe also rare earth mineral mining in Ukrainian areas occupied by Russia might accelerate Russian rearmament, save population to fill army boots. Therefore, the stolen children are important. Seems to correlate with Muslims taking children and turning them into the kind of soldiers who could actually kill their own families and countrymen if asked by their new masters. What were they called, Janissaries, I believe? Wouldn't it be tragic for stolen children to someday kill their own Ukrainian parents and kin.
If we do not protect Ukraine better than we did after promising them protection if they would get rid of their nukes, how can we call ourselves a moral freedom loving people. Some of the countries who sent armaments to Ukraine (like Bosnia) could ill afford to leave themselves unprotected by doing so IF they cannot depend on the US to be a protector. They participated from a desire to help Ukraine stay free, not from self-interest, else they would never have dropped their guard on self preservation by reducing their own armament.
Trump's first term impressed me in that he provided judicial appointments who respected founders values in the Constitution. I hope he fully embraces the values that make America, America. That is not just defined by the greatest deal. Reagan sure understood that. And he never trusted Russia. I don't think the world will admire us for superior deal making. They may if we are true to our love for freedom and justice for all.

Cuts to US national parks and forests spark outrage

Employees who maintained America's most wild places say they are concerned for public safety and for wildlife.

one small data point, a hunting buddy has a sister and a brother in law, both work for the park service, (in arizona) from home. they were offered the buyout. neither had ever been in the field. not sure what they did but I'm ok with them being laid off.
You don't know what they did but you're OK with them being laid off? This doesn't look like clear thinking.

Perhaps they were contracts staff (buyers), making sure the logistics requirements for the parks service were acquired responsibly, in accordance with laws and regulations and at the best value for money for taxpayers?

Why do you assume they were oxygen thieves?

I think you misunderstand.

Reciprocal escalation would have similar effects albeit our industry military complex would welcome it. The comparison is to show that there are many people and company's that instigate actions that walk back on previous agreements.

It's a new era...but the same types of people profit and welcome it.

Conspiracy theories. :sleep::sleep:

Until Russia and China are at the Mexican or Canadian border I don’t really give a flying flip in a rolling donut what or whom they fornicate with.
I shouldn't reply because this is just silly. You don't mean this.

I could write about forward defence, making the other guy die for his country, etc, but let me try this. Would you coach your junior football team this way? 'Line up on the touchdown line and block them when they reach you. That'll work!'

It would be worth the comedy of watching the Democrats lose their shit by broaching the idea of a 3rd term for Trump.

I would think that would lead to trump being measured against FDR in which he’d fall well short.

The conscripts of Ukraine are being taken from their homes as soon as they turn 18 and forced to fight. Maybe younger. Ukraine is hemorrhaging young men to the meat grinder.

American tax payers have something like 300,000,000,000 USD in this war. https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/crew8y7pwd5o

Every American alive today has personally spent $1000 for this meat grinder in Ukraine.

I spent 20 years in the military, and fought in Afghanistan, Iraq and Kosovo. I am pretty much over this BS of paying for wars just so the military industrial complex can get richer.
And Russians aren't being forced into an even bigger meat grinder? Russia is losing 1,000 men a DAY!

The Russian Army is so depleted they are bringing in North Korean troops by the thousands. North Korea is also supplying substantial amounts of artillery ammunition to the Russian Army from its 1950's era stockpiles.

I never said the U.S. should be the one to fund this war. It should be Europe that writes the check for this one.

Biden and his corrupt family gave away plenty of money around the World, specifically so they could reap financial benefits for themselves and their cronies. This is not the fault of the people or soldiers of Ukraine.

FDR couldn't be Trumps shoeshine boy

Your right of corse polio would make it very hard for FDR to be a shoe shine boy. Where as babbling like an narcissistic imbecile would make it impossible for trump to read FDRs December 7th speech with out making it sound something like “japs are bad…their just very bad people …. Little people… bad little people who sank our ships…”

I don’t remember FDR demanding mineral rights when he was saying that America must be the arsenal of democracy.

I doubt you are interested in any trades but I was getting ready to list a Sauer 404 3 barrel set in the 10-12 price range if your interested. It has the 404J, 30-06 and 6.5 Creedmoor barrel. Only the 30-06 had been shot and it has 7 rounds through it as I was working on breaking the barrel in. It also has both the synthetic thumbhole stock and somewhere between grade 3-5 non thumbhole stock
