Mugabe, at least at first, was supported by most of the Western world.
The Brits kind of had to after betraying the Rhodesians. I suspect they regretted that decision.

Yep, geopolitics at play without thought or care for the people involvedMugabe, at least at first, was supported by most of the Western world.
Speaking of Rhodesia; isn’t 11 November the date they declared their independence? The Brits kind of had to after betraying the Rhodesians. I suspect they regretted that decision.
Apparently this "racist and vile" cartoon has the "Squad" deeply unhappy. It apparently ran in the Washington Post.

The real tragedy to me is that we don't weed out those that aren't here looking for a better life. My best friend is Mexican, my grandson is about 1/4 Mexican. There are a ton of wonderful Hispanics here in the US, and sending them all "back" would be impossible.
I, personally, am a bigger fan of working up a plan for a path to citenship. For example IMO:
- no citizenship for at least 15 years, and no child born here is an automatic citizen either.
- work and pay taxes.
-do not vote.
- do not get arrested, even a misdemeanor.
-take integration training (years) to teach about history, policy, language, etc of the US.
-serve in the military for a couple years.
- community service, like infrastructure assistance.
- and many other ideas I'm sure.
Use a point system and if they get too many negative points, they and their family go home. If enough positive points, after 15 years, they're a citizen. A number of years ago, we had enough jobs to employee 500,000 Mexicans, yet we only gave out 50,000 Visa's. Wanna see a great program for migrant workers that is working, check out the H2 program.
Kind of my point, wasn't just talking about Mexico, hence my mention of Hispanics. Regardless, my point (which is my own)is I feel there should be some path to citizenship that requires consequence. The problem at the border aren't the Mexicans who over all are a hardworking asset to America.
Most of the people crossing the border now fall into two broad categories.
1. Indigenous people from Central America and South America. Over 50% of them are not working but living on welfare once they get to America.
2. People from the rest of the world that are being flown in by NGO's , primarily into Columbia and sailing across the Darien Gap, or into San Salvador. These then take busses and trains to the border and cross. Catholic Charities and other organizations are minting money from America and UN organizations supporting these people along the way to the US border.
It is truly an organized invasion.
I m ight add that since our troops are home from asscrackistan, put them on the border and give them free rein, no holds barred.Southern border easy solution.
Transfer responsibility from current LEAs to a taskforce of US FWS and State based Game Wardens. Charge a licence fee with no bag limit. Publicise the result widely south of border.
Benefits: problem goes away, hunter spending create economic boom in local communities, tactical wannabes finally have a use for all their tacticool sniper rifles etc, US citizens regain their reputation as crazy gringos who shouldn't be messed with
ps. Just in case there is any doubt, this post is totally tongue in cheek -![]()
They don't get free rein even overseas and have to follow ROE. Not to mention, I think it is against the law to use them domestically.I m ight add that since our troops are home from asscrackistan, put them on the border and give them free rein, no holds barred.
And what orders would we give them? Try to kill only the males over 18 and just wound the women and children? They are trained to stop an enemy by overwhelming indirect and direct fires. They don't get free rein even overseas and have to follow ROE. Not to mention, I think it is against the law to use them domestically.
Good point, but I question if this is past a civil issue, and has become a military issue. IMO, we are being invaded with both good and bad actors. People and drugs are coming into this country in unprecedented numbers.OK serious comment this time.
Even putting aside legislative/constitutional restrictions, I'm dead against using troops for 'civil' purposes. Politicians like to use the military as a quick solution to a civil problem however I believe it is extremely detrimental to the fundamental purpose of the military. Inevitably such actions require troops to operate under very restrictive ROEs. A culture of hesitation and a less aggressive mind set are the unintended consequences of such uses. The purpose of the military is to fight the country's wars. To close with and kill the enemy. An aggressive mind set is an absolutely necessity, hesitation gets troops killed. Years of performing 'civil' actions degrade troops' capacity to act decisively when a real war emerges.
What order should I give a young soldier in the scenario you describe.? Shoot that mother and two small children because they are running away? What would be the political and social costs of that sort of draconian ROE?Good point, but I question if this is past a civil issue, and has become a military issue. IMO, we are being invaded with both good and bad actors. People and drugs are coming into this country in unprecedented numbers.
In my non-military mind, wouldn't it be interesting to get the army corps of engineers to work on a border structure, while the military guards the "open" border. Communication could easily be passed on that the boys are off the chain and that if you refuse to be detained (i.e. run), deadly force will be used. Sort the good from the bad, and act accordingly.
Just wishful thinking out loud I suppose.
Different issue entirely. They represent an armed non-state actor that would be fair game for combat troops. Though in their case, I assume we would hand the mission to JSOC rather than regular infantry. If the cartels cross the border to operate as they are now doing in Mexico the whole conversation about military use will change....shades of Pancho Villa and American troops crossing into Mexico to take care of business.
