Politics

I don’t look for happiness.

As for killing myself, no. I’ll wait until the next revolution/war of northern aggression.

Thank you for your service. That and $5 will get you a cup of coffee from a country that is becoming a Third World country. Trump just slowed down the progress a little. The American voters have a short memory and will elect the party of evil again. Most likely in two years in the Senate.

Don’t let the doorknob hit you where the good Lord split you.
That must be a bitter cup of life everyday.

I don't know about everyone else here, and I will admit that the politics thread likely bears more collective neuroses than the "should I buy a .375 or .426?" threads, but I am happy as I have ever been in my life. I have been proudly married to the same good looking gal for 43 years; we are financially secure; our kids are doing great; we travel where and when we want; and I hunt wherever I feel like making the arrangements. We have a great home on a lovely piece of ground; and we are blessed with good health.

I will offer a little secret. Had Harris been elected last week, nothing meaningful at all in that assessment would have changed in the least.

Does anyone have any ideas who Trump may pick for Department of the Interior or Fish&Wildlife Service? Hopefully they can get some of the crazy import regulations reversed.

I hope he picks Don Jr. Would fixed that import problems pretty quick.

Frankly I couldn’t care less.

I heard this morning in TV that Noem was offered DHS

I believe I heard Pompeo is out?

True enough, still an issue IMO. She’s said enough wacky stuff to give me reason to doubt her judgement on any number of issues. That said, a decade really isn’t long enough for me for a person to show they’ve changed (I don’t think she’s really all that different now than she was then). I’ve got a hard enough time trusting people who were liberal in their youth let alone someone who was a full blown adult who supported someone as nutty as Sanders.

When she was still a dem, I always said that if I ever had a gun to my head and was forced to vote dem, it would be for her. Outside of that, I never would vote for anyone outside the GOP.

If we're being fair, Trump was a dem until Obama's second term? I believe?

Present day, I can't say she's said anything whacky. She was a moderate dem when she was. Trump is/was considered a moderate GOP.

I think this is something we need to let go of. She's no longer a dem, declared GOP, and backed Trump.

She’s just an opportunist.

If she is, she's a smart one. She jumped ship at the perfect time.

I wonder if Christy Noam or Doug Burgum will be selected for Interior.

If Trump and DOGE gives most federal lands to the states, it might be interesting if there is a Department of the Interior in four years. If so, USFW may be greatly curtailed, if USFW regulations were voided and they only enforced laws and treaties. Just a thought.

@Field28

I knew Ronald Reagan. Ronald Reagan was a friend of mine. Tulsi Gabbard is no Ronald Reagan.

Haha, good one!!!
My point was that people do grow and change their minds and opinions.
The old no heart/no brain saying.
I became jaded at a very young age with politicians and the media , hell add China to the list as well. I vote red to protect the First and Second. Deep down I'm an OG Ron Paul guy and yes I voted for Perot in my first Presidential election.

I think most working, producing Americans see through the media and the politicians BS, that certainly rang true on the 5th. For 8 years or better the media has called the sons and grandsons of the men who fought the Nazis...Nazis. People are tired of it. Hell, the left had to unite with Cheney who was their Hitler of 04 to condemn their Hitler of 2024.

There are exceptions to every rule and like I said it’s on a case by case basis. For the record Trump isn’t conservative enough for me on certain issues. We should welcome people in to the party but I think we’re a little too eager to accept some, let alone give them an actual role (an important or critical role anyway). Better to keep them at arms length until they’ve proven themselves.

My favorite person who was liberal in their youth and became conservative was Charles Krauthammer.

+1

Life is a roller coaster.. Ive definitely experienced my share of ups and downs... but its been a rare moment (perhaps never happened at all) that politics has had much influence on my happiness... other than maybe occasionally getting frustrated and having to turn off the TV a few times back when we still had cable television (we killed cable at the end of the last Obama election cycle and have never looked back)..

Ive had a great career and have ascended to a position at least a few rungs higher on the ladder than I ever envisioned.. and have managed to spend most of my adult life in career fields and working with and for people that I truly love..

While we are far from "rich".. we are financially secure, and live a very comfortable existence.. there are always a few things I "want", but there is nothing I can imagine that I "need" that I dont already have...

Everyone in my immediate family is in reasonably good health for their respective age..

Ive been blessed over and over again by being allowed to see a huge amount of God's green planet, experience different peoples, different cultures, different foods, etc..etc..

In the scope of things.. the biggest complaints I could possibly muster in life are immaterial compared to the blessings and grace I have received.. and I make a concerted effort daily to remind myself of that...

and... like @Red Leg had Harris been elected last week (I was reasonably sure she was going to be our next POTUS until about 9PM last Tuesday night).. not much would have changed.. I would still have lived a blessed and grace filled life.. and would still be thankful for it.. and wouldnt expect much would have changed moving forward...

American politicans have pretty much always sucked... Anyone else around here been alive long enough to remember Jimmy Carter? Does anyone think Herbert Hoover did wonderful things to advance the US? How about Millard Fillmore?

And.. we're not just limited to terrible Presidents coming and going... anyone remember the Ray Nagin NO Shakedown? It was just 15 years ago that Ray Cunningham was stealing millions and caught taking bribes... any of us want a return of Tammany Hall and Boss Tweed?

If anything, the US has proven to be pretty resilient.. and the US people always seem to overcome what inevitably seems to be the worst possible leadership we could put into public office... doesnt matter if you are an R or a D.. both sides have put truly HORRIBLE people behind the resolute desk, in state capitol buildings, in the Speaker of the House role, in major metro area mayors offices, etc..etc.. you'd think we prided ourselves on finding the biggest bags of shit on the planet and then giving them the opportunity to lead our nation into the next era.. Its almost like we purposefully test ourselves to see just how hard we can make things lol...

but... at the end of it all... the Jimmy Carters of our great nation come and go.. and our nation continues to move forward..
