Regarding DOGE: I am old enough (just barely) to remember the Grace Commission. Deja vu all over again.

Grace Commission

I have very different take. That sounded very well reasoned to me. It is also a response from a woman who has served both as an enlisted soldier and commissioned officer. She has been deployed, and currently holds the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. I strongly agree with her position with respect to a draft. I am genuinely interested what you found to be so "leftist."

I have served with female officers and enlisted personnel my whole career. Field Artillery was something of the pace setter within combat arms. Like their male counterparts, they ran the gambit with respect to performance. I do believe there are some jobs for which most women should not be expected to perform. For instance a tank or howitzer crew breaking track is a brutally physical endeavor. Rucking in body armor is not for the frail (man or woman). It is why any real integration of women into those MOS's has been very very slow and is likely to never amount to a significant percentage of the force.

But for most military positions, I have no issue with a woman who meets the physical and other standards for the billet. We have had some superb Apache pilots and gunners who were female. The air force seems to be generally pleased with the quality of female pilots they are creating - many who have also seen combat. Women in the armed services aren't going anywhere.

Gabbard has supported different messages on the 2A, but then again she was representing Hawaii. She apparently has also done some competitive shooting.

I said left leaning and I did find it so. It came from someone who was from the left and is still not someone I consider to be a true conservative. The idea of women serving in combat roles is primarily from the left and was most broadly implemented under Obama. Women serving in combat is not something that lines up with conservative values. Until five minutes ago most people would have agreed with me.

On the draft, I do support it. To be used sparingly of course but I do think if you’re an able bodied man of fighting age you should be made to fight for your country if needed.

At least 95% of the time.

OK is a truly beautiful state. Some of our happiest family time memories are of the two commands I held at Fort Sill in the early and then late nineties. I even "danced" in an honor Pow Wow for soldiers returning from Desert Storm. "Dances with Wolves" was in the theaters, and I asked my lovely bride if I reminded her of Kevin Costner. She laughed out loud.

While at the pentagon, I worked army issues closer with Jim Inhofe and his staff than any other member of either house. The only framed thing that I have from that period is a kind note and kind words in the Congressional Record from him upon my reassignment in 02. You are lucky to call OK home.

There are people whose opinions are worth debating. @Wheels has always been at the top of my list.

I would pay good money to see you dancing in a Pow Wow! Ft. Sill and the Wichita's have their unique semiarid beauty. I have always enjoyed my time hiking, camping and climbing (younger days) in the Wichita's. Every time I drive past Ft. Sill, Michael Martin Murphy's "Geronimo's Cadillac" plays in my head. We have visited the grave a couple of times.

Imhofe was certainly one of the biggest fans of the Pentagon in the Senate for decades. It's always good to hear stories of our politicians who care about the people they work alongside.

Oklahoma is my wife's home. It has been my home since 1977. We are blessed to live here.

When we look back on Trump's second term, we may find that the most important thing he accomplished in his first term was the reshaping of SCOTUS, allowing Trump to do the things he wanted in the second.

The SCOTUS cases cited by Ramaswamy all happened during the Biden years, allowing Trump the opportunity to be more successful in his second term. In June and July, Loper Bright, SEC and Corner Post were discussed on this thread extensively.

Well said!

While living in Austin I was constantly berated by the "my body my choice(unless we're talking vaccines)" crowd about reproductive rights and how the bad orange man stacked the SCOTUS to infringe on ALL our rights.

If you want to see a true leftists blood boil, just point out that if Ginsburg had retired under Obama when she was in her 80's, it would be a non issue; however just like all the octogenarians infesting our government.... she couldn't release the golden cow of power, therefor we ALL have to live with HER decision to not retire.

If you're feeling greedy go in for the double tap and remind them that you have a constitutional right to own a gun...... but even that comes with restrictions so why shouldn't a non constitutionally protected procedure have restrictions?

Well. These things happen. If there was an NDA apparently wasn't worth very much. Or more likely, a friend of the alleged victim dropped a dime. If you read the article, he has led, shall we say, an active romantic life. There is also apparently that whole fathering a child outside of marriage thing that so upset many on the right about Emhoff.

If the vetting comment is true, then I am a bit surprised the transition team doesn't have a bit more influence with Trump following some of his picks the first time around.

Hegseth was already facing meaningful headwinds.
