Despite being male and not even confused about what that means, heterosexual, white, and having proven his love for this nation there are many that think he is qualified.
Under what criteria? There are literally millions of Americans that are white male, heterosexual veterans. Does that make them qualified also? Are we going for reverse DEI now for cabinet positions?
I believe it's time to go a different route and Hegseth's main focus of ending DEI, raising the standards, and facilitating the warfighters' ability to carry out their mission is a significant step back in the right direction...
Good talking points, I wonder who wrote that? The question is whether he can deliver.
It has been mentioned that he does not need experience as he would select capable advisors etc. to help him.
I'd submit that someone with the experience running a large organization would be able to discern the best path forward in a more expeditious and accurate way among the advice being received.

The only candidate I can think of in recent history, is John McCain with multiple sons in military and have already fought in both Iraq and Afghanistan. Though he gets no respect from MAGA to this day.

Hegseth’s kids are in grade school, but if you take the time to read his book you’ll get a peak at how his parenting style and worldview intersect. In it, he writes the closing chapter as a letter to his sons encouraging them to serve in military, in combat arms, and specifically in the SOCOM world if they can.

Doubt they were talking points written by anyone but Hegseth... If you actually watched the hearing, you would have seen for yourself that Hegseth came off very sincere and unscripted...

I would add that the most meaningful and relevant experience necessary for accomplishing his "talking points" is actual boots on the ground experience, and leading men in battle.... there is no better experience for knowing first-hand what is necessary to facilitate the soldiers who are actually fighting the wars...

I don't disagree with that statement. I'd submit that a retired general officer with Pentagon experience would be more qualified. Or at least someone that has led a brigade with its own headquarters and staff.

His experience as a company commander is not an indication of being competent enough to lead an organization as large as DoD.

But we are pissing in the wind anyway, it looks like with Joni Ernst being pressured to vote yes to his nomination he will get nominated. Hope that you are right, and I am wrong.

Interesting that they were hitting him more with personal issues rather than his actual background and experience related to running basically the World's largest corporation.

Considering the track record, the left was perfectly aligned with their modus operandi.

Watching the Bondi confirmation I am astounded that the Democrats are opening so many doors into the misdeeds of the current administration. Low hanging fruit for anyone with a pedigree like Pam Bondi. All successful politicians are ruthless but few of them are stupid. The statements poorly disguised as questions are plainly that. Does his own party hate Joe Biden that much?

There is more to this than I can comprehend.

I think the dislike for McCain stems from his vote on overturning Obamacare, especially in the way he theatrically went with the thumbs down. But it’s hard for the ultra MAGA people with blinders on to see past that. Not the run of the mill republicans but the ones that think Trump can do no wrong.

I dont agree with Trump 100% of the time and think John McCain was an American hero but a petty asshole in the Senate. The 2 things can be mutually exclusive.

To paraphrase Hegseth: "For three decades we have been appointing Secretaries of Defense that are retired generals, academics, career bureaucrats, and defense contractors and what has it gotten us?"

The answer is a woke organization that is consistently not making budget or meeting recruitment goals... I believe it's time to go a different route and Hegseth's main focus of ending DEI, raising the standards, and facilitating the warfighters' ability to carry out their mission is a significant step back in the right direction...

I am curious what standards were lowered and what was used to measure the impact of DEI on readiness or lethality. What were the effective dates for implementation?

We have the best military in the World regardless who's the SOD.
Our military is not woke and the best government organization that we have by a long a shot.
Actually it's the reason US dollar is still the World's reserve currency.

Yes we do.

It was probably allowing them "queer people" to serve.

Despite the fact that gays have been serving in militaries since Sparta and earlier. :sneaky:

I always hear of these "standards" being lowered but no one can seem to tie policy changes to DEI or the "gays". My biggest issue when dealing with the newest generation of soldiers, sailors, airmen, or Marines was they were helicopter parented, out of shape from a sedentary lifestyle, or never learned respect at home. Being "gay" was in the bottom 1% of my concerns. Much rather have a gay medic than no medic at all. We trained who our nation sent us.

Pretty easy if you’ve been paying attention. When these changes were made (~2015) the maximum score on the army’s physical fitness assessment for a female wasn’t a passing score for a male of the same age (reps, run time, etc.). Now these pols don’t want the women that made it into these roles under those standards to be assessed on literally an even playing field.

I would say I was paying attention. Probably a lot more than you were. Actually if you were paying attention the scores for the males to max their APFT were significantly faster than they were prior to 2014. When I first entered the US Army I had to run an 11:54 2 mile run to max my APFT. Post 2014 the same age bracket had to run a 13:00 min 2 mile run to max. That had nothing to do with DEI or "Gays". The Army was not woke.

Your reply is the typical defend all the apples in the barrel, even the rotten ones, when the entire barrel is spoiled.

I’m sure you are knowledgeable enough about some things and retardant in other things just like all of us. You knew the dangers of the job when you signed up as did I. If you don’t like it feel free to seek other employment. Then you can worry about not coming home after getting hit by a bus instead of because you’re a cop.

I provided real world examples of what transpires, from the extreme to the more typical. The incidents in Phoenix and Meridian are all too common and frequent. Law Enforcement training has thrown common sense out the window and elevated itself to demigods.

As for needing a law enforcement officer you’re only good for anything after the fact to draw chalk outlines around the body and be revenue collectors through tickets written. For too long the judiciary has given law enforcement the benefit of the doubt. I’ll call a lawyer longves at risk to before I call a cop.
So when was the last time a lawyer ever assembled the evidence, identified the criminal (let's say murderer), put their own.lives at risk to.make the arrest, and remove the perpetrator from. The street (where you.might be the next victim)?

If you are ever involved when a mass shooting occurs, be sure you call a lawyer.

DOD needed people. We were in the longest war in our nations history. Most people even forgot the war was going on while society got fatter and prescribed ADHD medication creating significant issues at MEPS. We did lower some standards. For everyone. Not just females. The lowering and raising of standards is an algorithm that has happened many times in our history.

Reza Call me any time you want to talk about Elephant. hunting and CMS.
I've hunted two Elephant with CMS.
In 13 African safari's and an equal number of North American hunts, BUZZ is the best guide I have ever hunted with.
